Tropes for the episode:
- Descent into Addiction: Beecher continues his spiral into heroin abuse. Sister Pete tries to help but the drug counselling is essentially useless to him.
- Drugs Are Bad: Groves says this word for word to Alvarez.
- Dude, Where's My Respect?: Kenny feels like this about Nino's dismissive treatment of him. He is very happy when Adebisi says he can kill Nino when the time is right.
- Even Evil Has Standards: For all the horrible things he has done, the prison staff know that Schillinger would never supply drugs to anyone.
- Friendship Moment: Beecher helps Ryan up when his heroin abuse leaves him almost unable to stand. They also both have fun laughing at a guy who expects free drugs.
- For the Evulz: Schillinger humiliates Beecher by forcing him to dress up in drag for no other reason than he can.
- Genre Savvy: Said may not like drugs but he's not dumb enough to endanger his own life by snitching.
- Honor Before Reason: Nino refuses to ever give up information on his own men.
- He Knows Too Much: Adebisi kills Markstrom when he learns he is an undercover cop.
- Jerkass:
- Healy insults McManus and Wittlesey for literally no reason.
- Ross, when he laughs at Beecher for being forced to wear drag.
- Love Makes You Evil: Wittlesey agrees to help smuggle drugs into the prison for Ross so that she can provide for her young daughter and elderly mother.
- Manipulative Bastard: Nino cleverly appeals to Adebisi's ego to get him to do what he wants.
- Nice Guy: Despite barely knowing him Rebadow goes to see Said and offer his sympathies for his poor health.
- Old Friend: Ross is one to Schillinger.
- With Friends Like These...: It didn't seem to bother Ryan that much when he betrayed Healy to Nino.
- You Have Outlived Your Usefulness: Ryan sets up one of his drug clients for a beating by telling Hunt they were the one to set Healy up, in order to spare himself from C.O's retaliation.
