The Gut Punch
Sarah’s last chance to bring her nemesis back to sanity slips away as Art intervenes to get answers of his own. Meanwhile, the Orphans must decide whether to make peace with their creators, as Sarah is forced into a deadly confrontation with their enemy.
This episode contains examples of:
- Character Death: Aynsley was strangled by a garbage disposal, Amelia was beaten and stabbed by her own daughter, Helena was shot by her twin sister in self-defense.
- Dark Secret: Paul killed six Marines in Afghanistan and covered it up. That's how the Neolutionists are blackmailing him.
- Deal with the Devil: The Neolutionists offer the clones privacy and protection in exchange for their co-operation. It turns out that the Neolutionists have already patented them, so Sarah and Cosima don't take the offer. This news doesn't get to Alison in time, and she more or less signs her soul away.
- I Have No Sister: Sarah disowns Helena for killing their mother.Sarah: You're nothing to me. Just some crazy bitch wearing my t-shirt.
- Incurable Cough of Death: Cosima develops the same bloody cough Katja had.
- It's Personal: This is how Art feels about the whole case. Beth was his partner for two years after all.
- Mama Bear: Exploited. The Neolutionists try to convince Sarah and Alison to cooperate by promising to protect their children. When Sarah turns down their offer, they appear to take Kira.
- The Mole: Donnie and possibly Mrs. S.
- Mood Whiplash: A tense scene where Sarah is under police custody and being interrogated by Art abruptly transitions to Allison doing a hip-hop workout in her home.
- My God, What Have I Done?: Alison is horrified that she let Aynsley die. Also, when Cosima discovered that the clones are patented, Delphine couldn't believe she was a part of that.
- Oh, Crap!:
- "They patented us."
- Sarah finding a huge blood stain in Beth's house.
- When Sarah realizes that Mrs. S and Kira are missing.
- Properly Paranoid: Alison was right the first time. Donnie is The Mole, Aynsley wasn't.
- Self-Made Orphan: Helena murders Amelia, her birth mother, before being killed by Sarah.
- The Un-Reveal: In-universe. Sarah is released before she can tell Art about the clones.
- Use Your Head: Helena initiates her final battle with Sarah with a brutal headbutt.
- Wham Episode: Cosima starts coughing up blood; Amelia and Aynsley die; Sarah shoots Helena; Kira and Mrs. S are missing; the Dyad Institute already has a patent on the clones; Donnie is working for Leekie.
- Wham Shot: Donnie jogs up to a car and Leekie is in the backseat. It turns out that Donnie really was Alison's monitor all along, meaning Aynsley died for nothing.
- Would Not Hurt A Child: Delphine emphasizes again that she didn't tell Leekie about Kira.
