Go To

"Crash Into You" is the fourth episode of One Tree Hill and originally aired October 14th, 2003 and was written by Mark B. Perry and directed by David Carson.

After another successful game, Nathan invites Lucas to a party at Dan’s beach house with the rest of the team and the cheerleaders. But tensions escalate when Nathan can’t resist the opportunity to humiliate Lucas once again, then crashes Peyton‘s car and lets Lucas take the blame. Meanwhile, when Nathan's mother, Deb Scott, returns home and decides to make some changes.

Contains examples of the following tropes:

  • Blatant Lies: Nathan’s claim that Tim took Peyton’s car, and Tim attempting to cover for Nathan - especially since he’d already reacted in confusion when Peyton demanded he return her keys.
  • Dude, Not Funny!: The only people laughing when Nathan plays the video of Dan and Karen at their prom are Nathan and Tim.
  • Everyone Can See It: When Peyton makes fun of Brooke for hiding in Lucas’ backseat, Brooke questions if Peyton’s jealous and notes that the two blondes would make sense together due to their similarities.
  • Generation Xerox: Brooke points out that Nathan and Peyton are heading down the same path that Dan and Karen walked.
  • Genre Savvy: Despite Nathan’s protests to the contrary, both Lucas and Peyton realise that he only invited Lucas to the party to screw with him.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Nathan’s attempts at humiliating Lucas are in part motivated by Lucas becoming a larger factor on the team.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: Haley defending Nathan, even going as far as to suggest that Lucas took Nathan’s comments the wrong way. Partially justified in that Haley’s never present when Nathan tries to humiliate Lucas.
  • I Never: Played by the kids at the party; Brooke struggles to think of something she hasn’t done, whilst Nathan uses the game to mock Lucas.
  • Internal Reveal: Deb finds out just how much leeway Dan has been giving Nathan after Keith phones to tell them about Nathan crashing Peyton’s car.
  • It's Personal: Brooke takes the commentary on the life of a high school cheerleader provided by Peyton’s comic personally, arguing that the author has no idea what they’re talking about.
  • Jerk with the Heart of a Jerk: Nathan, at least in Peyton’s eyes after the party. It’s ultimately why she breaks up with him.
  • A Riddle Wrapped in a Mystery Inside an Enigma: Lucas observes that despite Peyton's desire to express herself through her art, she doesn't want anyone to know it's her. Peyton responds to this with a modified version of the original phrase.
Peyton: I guess I'm just a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside a bitch.
  • Something Only They Would Say: Nathan realises that Saki is really Peyton, implicitly because she depicted one of the times they had sex in her comic.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • Keith to Lucas, after he moved Peyton’s car after Nathan crashed it whilst drunk.
    • Lucas to Haley, after finding out that she had been hanging out with Nathan after his repeated attempts to humiliate Lucas at the party.
