Dolly and Dawkins make a fake alien invasion to prank Dylan.

This episode features examples of:

  • Big Brother Instinct: A misguided example, but Dylan decides to take the alien invasion down when he thinks they've assimilated Dolly and Dawkins.
Dylan: Nobody messes with my family!
  • Cheshire Cat Grin: Dolly and Dawkins sport Cheshire Cat grins when they get their idea to prank Dylan.
  • Continuity Nod: Mr. Fuzzy and Lucy from "A Dog's Best Friend" can be seen in the crowd watching the Camden Parade.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Dawkins, who teams up with Dolly to prank Dylan after feeling talked down to by him.
  • Jumping the Shark: An In-Universe example. When Dolly is telling a story about how she, Dylan & Dawkins were able to launch a UFO-shaped parade float into the canal, it shows them flying over a shark.
  • Layman's Terms: Dylan finds an "extraterrestrial plasma stream," or as Dolly puts it, an "alien snail trail."
  • Left the Background Music On: The theremin music that plays when Dolly and Dawkins shine torches to appear as intergalactic beams is actually coming from D.J.
D.J.: Always knew the theremin would come in handy.
  • Once More, with Clarity: A small flashback sequence shows how Dolly and Dawkins made the various signs of alien life to Dylan without him noticing.
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: Dylan overhears Dolly saying it's time for her and Dawkins to put him out of his misery and thinks they've been taken over by aliens and are planning to get him. She's actually talking about coming clean about the prank they pulled on him.
  • Talking to Themself: Dylan does this when he first thinks he's spotted aliens.
Dylan: Did I just see... aliens!? No, I must have imagined it! Or, did I!? Who should I tell? Dolly? No! Dawkins? Perhaps! No, not yet! Need facts, prove they're here! You're a dog of science, Dylan! Even if you are talking to yourself! Am I!? Yes! No!
  • Very Loosely Based on a True Story: In-universe example. At the end of the episode, Dolly tells the pups about when she, Dylan, and Dawkins got stuck in the runaway parade float, but adds a few embellishments. A shark, for example.
  • Visual Pun: As mentioned above, when Dolly is telling the story about the runaway parade float, it shows them flying over a shark. Her story has an In-Universe example of them literally Jumping the Shark.
