Recap / Numberjacks S 2 E 17 Fraction Action

Go To

Three and Four have been assigned to look after Five's buddy blocks, but they're arguing because Three wants to sing to them and Four wants to show them some wires he's made. Four suggests sharing them, but Three wants them all to herself. Four thinks Three's idea is unfair, so she changes her mind and agrees. However, when they try to share them, Four ends up with more blocks than Three, so she wants the extra one. Four calls this idea unfair, but Three retorts that she's actually the fairest Numberjack in the world. The buddy blocks then bounce away, so Four and Three follow.

However, they lose track of the buddy blocks. Three says that this is because Four isn't interesting, but Four says that the blocks probably just got bored of their arguing. The alarm then rings, so they go off to answer.

Agent 12 reports two kids arguing over a ball. Three wants to go out on the mission because she thinks she's best at sorting out arguments. Four reluctantly lets her go.

After landing on a door, Three goes off and Agent 44 reports another argument-related problem: a man and a woman (both gardeners) are arguing over a bucket. Agent 72 then reports three girls arguing over a hula hoop. The man and the woman break their bucket and the girls break their hula hoop, then two more kids join the ball argument and the ball breaks. Three starts to be less sure of her ability to solve the problems, but then the agents and the other Numberjacks notice something: there's the same number of pieces as people and the pieces are all funny shapes. They suspect foul play and Three suspects a specific person: the Shape Japer, who then shows up in person.

Five then imagines what would happen if the Shape Japer continued to render things useless by dividing them and Three suggests using brain gain to fix the objects, which Five makes.

Once the objects are whole again, everyone cooperates and Three gloats, however, the gardeners then start arguing over an apple. Agent 12, however, thinks that it would be fine this time to just let the Shape Japer divide the apple. She does, and each gardener eats their half. She then divides a pizza into thirds, which comes in useful because there are three people present.

The children from before (the ones with the ball) then share some chocolates but there is one left. The Shape Japer divides it into quarters, so they are able to share them equally. The gardeners then share some oranges and the Shape Japer divides one in half, leaving each gardener with two and a half oranges each.

While the Numberjacks are pleased that the Shape Japer is not causing trouble, they decide to stop her from going on her dividing spree in case she divides more things that can't be useful divided. To do this, they use brain gain to divide the Shape Japer in half, then into thirds, then quarters. Three is then sent back and they do the recap.

Three and Four then decide that they can't have two and a half buddy blocks, but they can take turns or watch them dance.

This episode provides examples of

  • An Aesop: Arguing with things is wrong. It's important to share with friends.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Four asks the viewers to wonder what things are useful divided into fractions, and what things aren't.
  • Fight for the Last Bite: The gardeners argue over an apple. The Shape Japer then defies this trope by dividing food so that it can be shared equally.
  • Healing Factor: The Shape Japer is able to put herself together after being divided.
  • The Hyena: The Shape Japer is laughing a lot as usual.
  • Hypocrite: Three calls Four unfair for having an extra buddy block, then wants to have it for herself despite claiming to be the fairest in the world. She also says it's bad to argue despite arguing with Four recently. Justified because she's only three years old.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: Like many episodes, this features interactions between Three (a pink girl) and Four (a blue boy) but also features Five (a blue girl).
