Don's team investigates a rapist who's converted to a serial killer, as Charlie struggles with memories of his mother.
Tropes for this episode:
- Idle Rich: According to his mother, Chandler has never worked a real job in his life, instead living off his trust fund.
- It's All About Me: Chandler has this view of the world, treating other people as his playthings. His mother seems to have this as well, albeit a more benign variation, as she appears more concerned with the possibility of Chandler's actions embarrassing her than about the potential victims he might hurt.
- Killing in Self-Defense: Don is forced to shoot Chandler after Chandler injects him with morphine, as he's about to pass out and can't risk what Chandler might do once he's unconscious and unable to defend himself. Charlie and Alan both agree that it was fully justified under the circumstances.
- Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Are Alan and Charlie just having dreams of Margaret (JoBeth Williams), or is she really speaking to them from beyond the grave? The characters treat it as the former, but a small air of mystery is nonetheless left to linger.
