Go To

Airdate: May 25, 2018

As Lloyd recovers from his injuries, the resurrected Lord Garmadon goes on a warpath.

Tropes:

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Garmadon uses his new powers to make a giant rock colossus, which he sets to work smashing up Ninjago City. It's big enough to hold the Destiny's Bounty in its hands.
  • Badass Normal: Misako, a middle-aged woman with no known superpowers, manages to go toe-to-toe with Garmadon, who was able to mop the floor with Lloyd just the previous episode, and walks away.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The bag of tea Mystake gives Jay comes in handy later on.
  • Depower: The ninja manage to revive Lloyd, but Mistake warns that it could cost them their elemental powers. It doesn't outright remove the powers, but they do seem to have been slightly nerfed. Lloyd unfortunately, on the other hand, loses his power after getting healed.
  • Downer Ending: Garmadon has taken over Ninjago City, the team is scattered, and Lloyd is forced to go on the run.
  • Kick the Dog: When the Ninja are seemingly killed and Lloyd grieves for them, Harumi takes the time to gloat and rub her victory in his face.
  • Kneel Before Zod: Garmadon demands folk kneel before him. People who don't get crushed.
  • Lack of Empathy: You'd think, perhaps, that after losing her parents, Harumi might maybe be talked down out of siding with Garmadon by the notion that this will just cause what happened to her to happen to other people... but nope, she doesn't care.
  • Mood Whiplash: The ninja confronting Garmadon and Harumi stops with Jay criticizing Kai for his unimaginative entrance line.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Kai, perhaps the most protective over Lloyd of the entire team, is the only one to hesitate risking his powers to save him. While Kai has certainly shown selfishness before, it's also been shown that he's been willing to risk literally anything to protect Lloyd, making his reluctance here rather jarring.
  • Party Scattering: Kai, Jay, Cole, Zane and Wu get sent to the Realm of Oni thanks to Mistake's tea.
  • Police Are Useless: An admittedly justified case—what are they supposed to do against an energy-powered rock colossus?
