Recap / Nikita S 1 E 7 The Recruit

Go To

Two of Alex fellow recruits are supposed to get their mission assignments: kind hearted Sara and Robbie, who is excited to get out of the training grounds. As it turns out, however, Sara is set up for a suicide mission, while Robbis is supposed to become a guard at the training facility.

Nikita saves Sara from the bomb she is unknowingly carrying and convinces her that Division wants her dead. However, Sara only joined Division to find her son, who she was forced to give up when she was a teenager, and runs of to finally find him. Division knows about this, and tracks her. During a firefight between a Division team consisting of Michael and four other agents and Nikita and Sara, Nikita fakes Sara's death. Michael and his team are recalled to Division and have to let Nikita get away, because Robbie has gone on a rampage. Alex manages to put him down before Michael arrives, however.

The episode ends with Robbie, who everyone thought had been killed, being recruited into the Cleaner program.

Tropes

  • Amoral Attorney: The lawyer who arranged the adoption of Sara's son.
  • Antagonist in Mourning: Birkhoff considers Michael's refusal to believe Nikita is dead as the denial part of the grieving process, though of course it turns out that Michael is actually right. But he is seen to be quite relieved when he sees for himself that Nikita is still alive.
  • Faking the Dead: Nikita fakes Sara's death. Michael seems to see her alive, but he reports back to Percy that she died. Also, everyone is told that Robbie was killed, when he is in reality still alive and will likely be trained to be a Cleaner.
  • Give Him a Normal Life: Nikita convinces Sara that ripping her son away from his loving adoptive parents and taking him with her on a run from Division would only hurt the boy.
  • Sanity Slippage: Robbie was so excited to see the world. When he is told that even after graduation he'll not be allowed to leave the training facility he snaps.
  • Teen Pregnancy: In Sara's backstory. She mentiones that she was 16 when she gave birth to her son.
