Recap / Nikita S 1 E 8 Phoenix

Go To

Thom's graduation approaches: He has to assassinate Anna Harcourt, an intern who has an affair with a senator.

Nikita is too late to stop him and investigates why Division wanted Anna dead. She finds out that the senator promised Percy funding for Division in exchange for taking care of the problem Anna presented. However, it turns out that Anna was actually, unbeknownst to anyone, a Russian spy.

Gogol, the agency behind Anna, proposes to Nikita that they work together to stop Division. As Gogol isn't any better than Division, Nikita refuses, and finds herself poisoned and blackmailed: If she doesn't kill the senator within twelve hours, she will die.

Alex however steals the antidote from Division and plants it on Thom. Nikita later takes it from him after knocking him out.

Tropes

  • Alas, Poor Villain: Sort of with Anna. Yes, she was a Russian spy, but apparently she really loved her ex the barkeeper and her dog. She was also pregnant, which is what got her murder ordered by the senator.
  • Blackmail: How Gogol want to force Nikita to kill the senator for them.
  • Enemy Mine: What Ari Tasarov, the head of Gogol, proposes to Nikita: Work together to take out their common enemy Division. Nikita refuses.
  • Honor Before Reason: Nikita's refusal of working with Gogol could be interpreted this way. Ari promises her unlimited resources, back up, a place to go afterwards, etc. But Nikita refuses because Gogol is just a Russian version of Division, and she doesn't want to help them.
  • Race Against the Clock: If Nikita doesn't get the antidote in twelve hours, her stomach will liquify.
