Recap / Nancy Drew S 1 E 10 The Mark Of The Poisoners Pearl

Go To

JUSTICE - After discovering a connection between the poison that killed Tiffany Hudson and a Horseshoe Bay cold case, Nancy and the Drew Crew risk their lives to bring a serial killer to justice.

Tropes:

  • CPR: Clean, Pretty, Reliable: Nick gives Nancy CPR until George finds the antidote.
  • Creepy Souvenir: The killer has video tapes of her victims' final moments, where she quizzes them about their lives, getting a creepy connection to them.
  • Criminal Mind Games: The poisoner taunted Thom for years with ciphered messages that were uncrackable, because they weren't ciphers. The real message was in the photos above the ciphers. Nancy reverses this, posting a video to her blog challenging the killer.
Nancy: You want to play a game? Fine, let's play. But I'm changing the rules. I'm giving you the name of your next victim: Nancy Drew.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: If you missed the slip-up with the I Never Said It Was Poison, the fact that the "victim" starts questioning Nancy about her past in the same way she did with her previous victims (as George sees on her tapes) is a major clue.
  • Go into the Light: In the last seconds before the antidote kicks in, Nancy walks down a spiritual hallway toward a bright light.
  • I Never Said It Was Poison: How Nancy figures out that Claire is the murderer since she lets it slip that the gas they're breathing in is poisonous.
  • So Proud of You: Captain Thom shows up at the arrest to tell Ace this.
  • Mama Bear: Nancy's mother shows up to stop her from going into the lgiht.
  • Reality Has No Subtitles: There are no subtitles when Thom and Ace sign to one another, unless it's just a conversation between the two of them.
  • Sarcasm Mode: When Ace warns Nancy that his house can be a bit of a war zone, she takes a look at a tidy suburban lawn (with gnomes!) and drawls out "Yeah, I can tell.".
  • That One Case: Captain Thom is clearly haunted by the murderer who spent years taunting him with a cipher.
