My Superhero University | Season 01, Episode 03: I Lost Myself, Is It Better Not Said

Wren: Wren does like, but Wren also confusion. Why open house and not closed? Would get wet and cold. Closed mean cosy and warm. Yes?
Malhareff: Class 1 only seems ironclad on the surface, executing missions and working as heroes, but look at things on a Squad by Squad basis, and you see areas of woeful lacking, and then on a person by person basis - each Squad possesses a wedge or two that can be employed. Whether they know they are a wedge or not.
Tamamo-no-Mae: Every army has its oversights. Comparatively lacking attributes that combine with the greater attributes to forge something greater. But separating them will do the trick, yes. If they're not stubborn...We'll have to watch out for the heavy-hitters. There's more than one god in their midst, which isn't particularly good for us. I could take on the kitsune for convenience's sake, but there's still others that could catch us off-guard...And another thing: aim for vitals. Kill them. No use fueling their lust for vengeance. Foolish as it is it does make them more dangerous. If not more reckless, but that can be part of it. In any case, they've had a year. If they're lacking teamwork they're most certainly not lacking in bonds...
Zach: A lot. Something in me's...wrong. Something in me broke last year and...I do t think I can hide it, or pretend it’s not there. What if something happens, and I lock up and make it worse, or if I end up back then, to what happened, and...I can’t tell what’s real and what’s a memory, and I start...hurting people...
Selena: I see. As much as I'd prefer to leave our deava and her little friends out of this, she's too much of a threat to be ignored. Especially after she's already intervened. With the yazata's help, we should be able to deal with her if she does so again. Now, is there anything else anyone wants to bring up before we plan our next move?
Roboctopus: I would like to be out of here as soon as possible, if that's an option. These people bore me. You'd never see octopi so enraptured with themselves and their offspring as to burden others.
Elaine: Hey, can I take a picture with you all? Kinda to commemorate the early occasion and completely not because I wanna brag on the internet about how I'm in the famous Class 1.
Evo: Do not underestimate those who did not catch our eye. If they were too much weaker they would surely fall behind.
Shane: I-I just... I really thought this year, we'd get closer, we'd really work together. That we got to know each other well enough and—-And...I really, really don't like losing people. Cuts pretty deep.

Tropes - Unmarked Spoilers Below

  • After-Action Healing Drama: The physical drama comes in an omake. The psychological drama is behind alot of interactions in this episode.
  • A Simple Plan: Selena lays out one for her next artifact hunt.
  • Badass on Paper: The students of the university are comprised of veterans of the Gaea-Nazi attack, the ones who spearheaded its defeat actually. A few are old hands who also defeated the Lethal Legion. They have one cohesive squad to carry out complex operations, one battering ram squad that only needs to be pointed toward the enemy, and two further groupings of powerful and often proven individuals. Two experienced heavy hitters have gone but will be replaced... by abrasive newcomers. At least seven students have been targeted as 'wedges' by the Evil Genius. One newcomer is a spy. All in all, the students combined may be shown to be less than the sum of their parts if things don't get together...
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Part of the aftermath of their raid in the previous episode, the Guardians lose two enemies, including one of their major fears without further ado.
  • The Corruptible: Malhareff thinks this of "Vivian...Sally, Zach, Dante, Finn, Clay and Evelyn, in that order."

  • I Will Fight No More Forever: Zach has had it, and retires as a hero.
  • Legend Fades to Myth: The guardians get some of the details of the Battle of Super City wrong though.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Tamamo sounds like one, mentioning Divide and Conquer and Attack Its Weak Point tactics if they can't just go around the students.
  • Opt Out: Zach retires, and Yoko leaves with him. Shane takes the news particularly hard.
  • Reset Button: So, Perry's parents aren't terrible people, just the ones shown onscreen were not her real parents.
  • Retirony: Averted. Zach waxes poetic about his upcoming retirement and his plans with his family. Nothing happens to him. Onscreen. So far.
  • So Last Season: OOC, Perry adds enchanted weapons to her medium power set.
  • Summon Bigger Fish: The guardians mention contact with yazata.
  • Throwing Off the Disability: Evelyn after her medical attention has vision, without a third eye bursting through her skull.
