Class A Team is quickly overwhelmed resulting in both Kirishima and Koda being captured. Using himself as a distraction, Kaminari is captured as well, allowing the threat of Shinso's quirk to dismantle The Class B Team's communication, and for Asui to deliver the finishing blow. As Class A celebrates their victory in the first round, Shinso thinks about how far he still needs to go to become the hero he hopes to be.

Tropes in this episode:

  • Chekhov's Skill: Way back in the first season, Asui lists her Frog Quirk features, which include being able to produce a special mucus from her body. In this episode, she finally makes use of it with her teammates, to throw off their scent. It serves as an effective distraction for Jurota Shishida's Beast Quirk. Midoriya and Mineta both remember this.
  • Grievous Harm with a Body: The match ends with Asui throwing one of Shishida's teammates, Hiryu Rin, at him, knocking them both out.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: While it was against her will, Ibara Shiozaki felt horrible when she was brainwashed into capturing her own teammates.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Thanks to Shinso's Persona Chords device disguising their voices, the Class 1B team is unable to talk to each other in fear of his Brainwashing Quirk, eventually costing them the match.
  • Something Only They Would Say: Shishhida hates being called "Apocabeast" by his peers, but the fact that one of his teammates called him that in distress (Rin, in this case) is what convinces him that Shinso isn't disguising his voice again. Unfortunately for him, it is already too late when Asui throws Rin at him, while assuming Shinso is trying to brainwash him again.
  • Waving Signs Around: Played for Laughs in the entire joint training arc. Mina, along with other Class 1-A students, holds up protest signs demanding fair coverage while she chants the same thing because of Mr. Vlad's biased comments toward Class 1-B, who's their homeroom teacher and the Combat Commentator of the matches.
