Recap / My Hero Academia S4E6 "An Unpleasant Talk"

Go To

The Work Studies students join their mentors and other Pros to discuss what had occurred over the past few days. They connect the dots of several drug-related incidents that center around two people: Kai Chisaki and his daughter Eri.

Tropes:

  • Avengers Assemble: Many Pro Heroes throughout Japan gather in this episode.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Rock Lock chews out Midoriya and Togata about letting Eri return to her abusive father instead of saving her. However, Nighteye mentions that trying to save her too soon would only put her and everyone else in danger, and both boys are already frustrated for Just Following Orders.
  • Bottle Episode: Almost the entire episode takes place in Sir Nighteye's Agency.
  • Dull Eyes of Unhappiness: After Eri is left alone back in Overhaul's compound, she has a vacant expression that slowly breaks as she remembers her run-in with Deku.
  • Forbidden Chekhov's Gun: Sir Nighteye reveals that he rarely ever uses his Foresight Quirk as he not only sees a target's entire life, past or future, but also their death. To him, if he sees into one's future to the end, then there is no way to change how they die, much less avoid it. While Rock Lock volunteers to have Foresight used on him and save everyone the trouble of tracking down Overhaul, they eventually decide to hold off for now and use other means to find him for Eri's sake. Midoriya believes this is connected to what All Might told him and why their partnership ended.
  • Internal Reveal: Both Togata and Kirishima find out that Midoriya did his internship under Gran Torino. Kirishima is especially impressed, having witnessed Gran Torino fight alongside All Might at Kamino Ward.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": Everyone has various versions of this when learning the news regarding the connection to Eri and the bullets that can disable Quirks, but it's Mirio and Midoriya that has this the most.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Togata and Midoriya have a look of pure dread when they believe that the girl they let go is still suffering from Chisaki's Quirk, based on the bandages around her limbs, under suspicion that she is the key to making the Quirk-erasing bullets. Mirio is distraught that he let her go while Midoriya is distraught that he didn't try hard enough. They vow that the next time they find Eri, they will save her.
  • Unexplained Recovery: Tamaki's Quirk is restored sometime after being hit with the bullet from last episode. The group conclude that the bullets are prototypes and a more stable set may be produced to completely break down Quirks.
  • The Stinger: Eri is seen in a dark room when one of Chisaki's associates drop off another toy for her. Eri is then left alone, remembering Midoriya holding her with care, in a way that no one else has done for her in her life.
  • Wham Line: Fat Gum reveals after taking a closer look at the bullet that Krishima deflected, the same type that hit Tamaki and disabled his Quirk, the chemical inside comprised of human blood and cells.
