After the owner of a French restaurant is found with his own pickled finger in his mouth, Crabtree fills in for an injured Murdoch to solve the crime. While Dr. Ogden and Enid nurse him back to health, Murdoch suspects his landlady of planning a murder.

- "Eureka!" Moment: Played With. George Lampshades how Murdoch usually stares at the board and realizes something, and tries to force a breakthrough to no avail. Then he scares the parrot by speaking with an English accent, and has a real Eureka Moment.
- Mondegreen Gag: One of the things the French-accented, Fowl-Mouthed Parrot says is "You go, go away!" It's really saying, "Hugo, go away!"
