Recap / Mr Bean E 7 Merry Christmas Mr Bean

Go To

  • And This Is for...: One of the Christmas Eve programs that Mr. Bean comes across is a film where a man is shooting someone whilst screaming, "That was for my brother! That was for my sister!"
  • Bait-and-Switch:
    • In giving his gift to Irma, first he gifts her a posterboard of a man presenting a woman a ring, and in giving her the "real" gift in a ring box, it's a hook that allows her to hang up the posterboard.
    • At the Nativity scene, one of the figurines Bean plays with is a young boy with a dog is whistles at the various sheep figures. You'd think that he's just returning them to a farm, but instead they're rounded up to go onto a meat processing truck.
    • After Bean procures several monies and jewelry for the Salvation Army volunteer, the man is later seen trying on a string of pearls in his car.
  • Brick Joke:
    • While hanging up stockings, Bean hangs up one for a mouse menacing his apartment. The next morning, the mouse’s stocking gift is a piece of cheese, which Bean places on a mousetrap.
    • Bean places several "matches" from various Christmas crackers into one big cracker. When he pulls it apart at the end of the episode, it causes a bright explosion at his apartment.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Mr. Bean doesn't realize until too late that Irma thought she'd be getting a wedding ring instead of a portrait and when she leaves him, he is legitamately hurt, wondering what was wrong with the portrait.
  • Manchild: Bean plays with the nativity scene in the department store. It isn't until the clerk interrupts him with a policeman figurine that he finally stops.
  • Put on a Bus: This episode is Irma Gobb's last live action appearance (though she became a regular in the animated series).
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: After receiving her second gift from Bean, she storms out of the apartment.
  • Shout-Out: One of the toys Bean is seen playing with at the department store is a Dalek.
  • Title Drop: After Irma leaves Mr Bean, he holds up the Christmas Cracker he was going to pull with her and says to himself ruefully; "Merry Christmas, Mr Bean...".
