Lunella is assigned to help a new boy acclimate to school. But while the two bond, little does she realize her new friend is a Kree soldier sent to capture Moon Girl.
- Birds of a Feather: Lunella bonds with Marvin because they're both science enthusiasts that deliberately get themselves sidelined at gym to work on projects.
- The Bus Came Back: This is LOS's first appearance since their introductory episode.
- Chekhov's Gun: The device that Lunella and Marvin were working on throughout the episode, later revealed to be a Hard Light emitting device that would allow for barriers and arm blades to be made, plays a crucial role in shutting down the fight with Mell-Varr's dad.
- Dodgeball Is Hell: Lunella lets herself get eliminated early during dodgeball so she can sit on the bleachers and concentrate on science. Later, Marvin does it as well.
- Dramatic Irony: Heavily used throughout the episode, as while the audience is made aware of Marvin's true identity and intentions early on, a good majority of the rest of the episode is dedicated to Lunella and Marvin actively bonding, unaware that they're constantly fighting each other's alter ego and true identity respectively. There's also the fact that Lunella believes Marvin knew her secret identity as Moon Girl when he had already ruled her out as a candidate due to her lack of physical prowess in her civilian identity.
- Indulgent Fantasy Segue: At dinner, Lunella and Marvin suddenly start attacking each other, while Mimi cheers her on and the rest of the family heads for cover. It all turns out to be an Imagine Spot, as it cuts to Lunella and Marvin just staring at each other while eating.
- Intelligence Equals Isolation: Downplayed; Lunella does have friends, but the plot is driven by the fact that she doesn't have anyone her own age that she can really talk science with.
- Jock Dad, Nerd Son: Pad-Varr is a respected Kree Warrior. Mell-Varr is a scientific genius who failed out of the Kree Combat Academy three times.
- Lost Food Grievance: During Marvin's first encounter with Lunella, he accidentally knocks the bagel off her hands, which leads her to a Skyward Scream. When she meets him again at school, she calls him a "bagel killer."
- Loves My Alter Ego: Kid Kree and Moon Girl are enemies. Marvin and Lunella are friends.
- No Name Given: Pad-Varr debuts in this episode. His name appears in the credits, but isn't mentioned in the show itself until "Dancing With Myself", seven episodes later.
- Roboteching: Kid Kree's laser blasts can redirect themselves in midair to hound their target.
- Shipper on Deck: Casey is clearly delighted to see Lunella nerding out with someone their own age.
- "Well Done, Son" Guy: Mell-Varr tries to defeat Moon Girl to please his warrior father Pad-Varr. He ultimately fails but his father comes to appreciate his scientific skills.
- Was It All a Lie?: Lunella is incensed when she discovers Marvin is Kid Kree, sent on a mission to destroy Moon Girl, believing he only befriended her as Lunella to get close to her before eliminating her. After driving him away in their civilian identities, Marvin tearfully confesses he never knew her secret identity, he liked her for who she was and he doesn't want to be a Kree warrior.
