Go To

Airdate: July 19, 2022 note

"Heat Wave: A heat wave hits Qyah, and Molly is determined to find out the highest temperature on record.

"Heat Wave" contains the following tropes:

  • Desperate Object Catch: Tooey attempts this when he knocks over the fan. It didn't work, and it gets broken.
  • Dynamic Entry: Trini cartwheels right into the Denali Trading Post.
  • Flapping Cheeks: Tooey gets this when he sits in front of Midge's new fan.
  • Heat Wave: Qyah is in the midst of a heat wave. It is 85 degrees Fahrenheit, which is super hot by Qyah standards. Notably, Trini isn't bothered by the heat since she's from Texas, where it can be up to 95 degrees for a whole month.
  • Heroic Vow: Tooey vows to fix Auntie Midge's fan. He even writes an IOU about it. When Mr. Rowley says the fan is a goner, Tooey is disappointed, but Midge reassures him that he doesn't owe her anything.
  • Human Traffic Jam: While the kids are on their way to the library, Auntie Midge calls out to them, causing Tooey to pause and the others to bump into him.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Midge thinks that her fan can still work after falling. She stands corrected when it doesn't.
  • MacGyvering: Tooey and Mr. Rowley manage to make a solar-powered fan out of the likes of bottle caps and a ballpoint pen.
  • Overcrank: Slow motion is used when Tooey accidentally knocks the fan over and tries to catch it.
  • Skyward Scream: After the fan breaks, Tooey screams at the ceiling in anguish.
  • Slow "NO!": Tooey slowly says "Oh noooooooooo!" when trying to catch the falling fan.
  • Thunder Equals Downpour: Immediately after Molly says the heat wave is supposed to continue for a week, thunder rumbles and the sky opens.

"It Came From Beryond": Molly and Trini must save Qyah from a wildflower.

"It Came From Beyond" contains the following tropes:

  • Accent Upon The Wrong Syllable: Trini reads about the bird vetch in her field guide, and calls it "in-vah-sive" species.
  • All Your Base Are Belong to Us: After vetch flowers start invading Molly's garden, Trini has a dream about a talking vetch who refuses to leave the garden, while her and her friends chant "YOUR HOME IS OUR HOME NOW."
  • Catapult Nightmare: After Trini's nightmare, she flings right up out of bed.
  • Dream Sequence: Trini has a pretty surreal dream about a talking bird vetch. She asks to invite some friends. Then the next morning, more vetch plants pop up in Molly's garden. Trini then has a second dream where she asks the flowers to leave, but they respond poorly to her concerns.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Molly and Trini read online that they can get rid of vetch flowers by using a weed whacker. They failed to notice the part where it says "Weed whack before the vetch flowers or the seeds will spread." Because of this, the vetch flowers spread their seeds and grow new flowers in the process.
  • Introduced Species Calamity: Trini encounters one bird vetch and thinks it would be perfect for Molly's garden. Soon, more and more of that plant start spreading around the garden. Trini learns that it is an invasive species to Alaska.
  • Pretty Butterflies: Molly has butterflies to go with her garden.
  • Spoonerism: A tired Trini says that soon "Bolly will have mumblebees."
