"How hard can it be for two home-owning homosexuals to adopt a child?"
Tobin (Andrew Scott) and Andy (Brandon Kyle Goodman) are a couple trying to adopt a child. When they are matched with the pregnant Karla (Olivia Cooke), Andy is accepting of the situation, but Tobin struggles with having her around.
Tropes in this episode:
- Big Eater: Karla tends to eat a lot, ordering a very large meal with desert during her first meeting with Tobin and Andy. Justified by her transient nature as she often doesn't know when she will eat again. She's also pregnan, making it a necessity.
- The Cameo: Ed Sheeran as Mick, a guy Karla shacks up with for a night.
- Daddy Had a Good Reason for Abandoning You: Not quite abandoned as she does meet up with her every once in a while, but Karla leaves her daughter in Tobin and Andy's care because she knows it's ultimately the best choice for her future.
- Heroes Love Dogs: Karla has a golden retriever named Homer who she adores. Tobin and Andy also have a dog.
- Homeless Hero: Karla is homeless and is so by choice, feeling uncomfortable staying in one place for too long.
- Panicky Expectant Father: Andy is the panicky one during the birth.
- Unkempt Beauty: Karla doesn't focus much on her appearance due to being transient but is still played by the very pretty Olivia Cooke.
