Recap / Mobile Suit Gundam 00 S 1 E 23 Stop The World

Go To

After Setsuna demonstrates the power of Trans-Am, Ali and Nena flee the battlefield.

Back on Ptolemy, Sumeragi explains that the Trans-Am system triples the performance of a true GN Drive equipped Gundam, but when the effect wears off, the Gundam's power is drained and its performance is lessened. Setsuna contacts Ptolemy to warn the others that Ali has stolen the Gundam Throne Zwei and that the HRL GN-X forces are on their way to space, presumably to take out Ptolemy.

Lasse asks Setsuna what he thinks about Celestial Being's purpose in light of recent events. Setsuna explains that his faith in Celestial Being has been renewed after Aeolia entrusted him with Trans-Am. Lasse admits that he doesn't think that war can ever truely be eradicated, but he does believe that Celestial Being's mere existance will show humanity that there is a better path than violence.

The UN forces (now including Ali's Throne Zwei) attack Ptolemy. Sumeragi has Kyrios (which has been upgraded to have more firepower and mobility) and Virtue sortie, while Dynames remains on standby due to Lockon's injury. Tieria locks Lockon in the briefing room to ensure that he won't get himself killed protecting the others. Tieria and Allelujah put up a good fight despite being vastly outnumbered, but Ali and Soma eventually manage to turn the tide. Lockon manages to reach the Dynames and launches docked with the GN Armor so he can get his revenge on Ali.

Setsuna use Trans-Am to try to reach the battlefield more quickly. Allelujah uses Trans-Am against Soma and Sergei, which also allows Hallelujah to block Soma's quantum brainwaves without taking control of Allulujah. Allelujah forces Soma and Sergei to retreat, but his Trans-Am runs out before he can finish either of them off. Tieria uses Trans-Am to destroy several GN-Xs and force Patrick to retreat. Lockon shows up to assist Tieria. He drives Daryl and the other GN-Xs off before going after the UN ships. Lockon destroys two of the three UN ships, but before he can destroy Kati's ship, Ali shows up and uses his fangs to destroy the GN Armor.

Lockon and Ali fight. Lockon demands to know why the KPSA bombed Ireland. Ali explains that he did it for the money and mocks Lockon for judging him for commiting terrorism when Lockon does the same to end war. Daryl interrupts the fight to launch a suicide attack against Dynames. Lockon manages to kill Daryl, but Ali realizes from Lockon's reaction times that Lockon has a blindspot on his right. Ali takes advantage of this blindspot and attacks with his fangs. Lockon manages to escape, but not before Ali critically damages the Dynames.

Lockon manuevers Dynames to the remains of the GN Armor's cannon, removes the Dynames's targeting equipment, and orders Haro to return Dynames and its GN Drive to Ptolemy. Lockon installs the targeting equipment on the GN Armor cannon and targets Ali. He thinks to himself about how this is foolish and he should return to Ptolemy, but he knows that he would never be able to move on if he doesn't take his revenge. Lockon fires the cannon and destroys the Throne Zwei, but not before Ali fires at the GN Armor cannon, sending Lockon flying into space.

Lockon thinks to himself about how he probably didn't change anything by killing Ali, except perhaps by creating a better future for someone named Lyle. He sees Exia approach him and wonders if Setsuna ever found his answer. Lockon takes one last look at the Earth:

The cannon explodes before Setsuna can rescue Lockon. The Ptolemaios crew are relieved when Kyrios, Virtue, and Dynames all return safely, but when they try to contact Dynames, the only response they get is Haro endlessly repeating Haro's name.

This episode contains the following tropes:

  • Anyone Can Die: Lockon's death signfies that not even the protagonists are safe.
  • Not So Stoic: The otherwise outwardly emotionless Setsuna and Tieria are left sobbing when they realize that Lockon is dead.
  • Revenge Before Reason: Lockon admits that he should retreat to Ptolemy instead of attempting to finish off Ali, but he doesn't think that he could live with himself if he passes up his chance for revenge.
