  • Adaptational Jerkass: In the scene where Jin Zixuan accuses Jiang Yanli of stealing credit regarding who's been giving him soup, the worst thing he did in the novel was give her a brutally honest speech about how status doesn't equate to one’s integrity. He takes it further in the donghua by getting physical with her, such as shoving her away before grabbing her wrist while further antagonizing her.
  • Adaptation Deviation: Jiang Cheng and Wei Wuxian’s encounter after Jin Ling is saved from the Man-Eating Castle occurs a bit differently. In the novel, Wei Wuxian looked for Jin Ling (who ran away before he could do anything about the latter’s Curse Mark), although he bumps into Jiang Cheng when Xianzi chased him. But in the donghua, shortly after rescuing Jin Ling, Wei Wuxian immediately dispels his Curse Mark and it's then that Jiang Cheng finds both of them thanks to Xianzi.
  • Adaptation Expansion
  • Big Brother Instinct: Jin Zixuan seems to have forgotten what happened the last time he disparaged Jiang Yanli, since when he repeats it he gets another hard punch to the face from Wei Wuxian.
  • Big Sister Instinct: When Jin Zixun starts insulting Wei Wuxian, Jiang Yanli immediately steps in to defend the latter.
  • Buried Alive: Jin Ling narrowly avoids this fate in the Man-Eating Castle thanks to the protagonists.
  • Call-Back: During a hunt, Wei Wuxian saved Jiang Yanli from a large snake — exactly like the one that almost got Jin Ling two episodes prior.
  • Damned by Faint Praise: Downplayed. While talking to an illusion of a young Jin Ling, Wei Wuxian tells the boy that his mother was a great woman. Then when asked about the father, the only thing Wei Wuxian can say is that Jin Zixuan genuinely loved her.
  • Enemy Rising Behind: A variation. As soon as Wei Wuxian stands up after healing Jin Ling, Zidian suddenly starts glowing and coiling from behind him, showing that Jiang Cheng is nearby.
  • Friendless Background: When Wei Wuxian enters Jin Ling's memories, he comes across a younger Jin Ling who's being bullied by kids his age for being an orphan.
  • Heroic RRoD: Downplayed. While all the spells that Wei Wuxian conjured in the past three episodes didn't tire him in the slightest, he got considerably taxed from absorbing Jin Ling's Curse Mark onto himself; although emotional stress might have something to do with it.
  • Internal Reveal: Until the end of the episode, Wei Wuxian believes that Jiang Cheng only knows that he's merely another practitioner of demonic cultivation but refuses to get off his back because Jiang Cheng is the vengeful type. The audience knows this isn't exactly the case, and Wei Wuxian realizes this as well when Jiang Cheng calls him by his real name instead of Mo Xuanyu's.
  • Lost in Translation: When Wei Wuxian introduces himself to the illusory Jin Ling, he refers to himself as the latter's shishu (senior) rather than jiujiu or dajiu (both of which mean "uncle") even though he was adopted into the Jiang family. This reflects him emotionally distancing himself from the Jiang Sect.
  • Love Confession: The post-credits scene has Jin Zixuan essentially give on to Jiang Yanli when he tells her that he's the one who invited her to the hunt.
  • Luminescent Blush: Jin Zixuan's face turns beet red when he realizes he just confessed to Jiang Yanli in front of several other cultivators, including his own mother.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: Jin Zixuan realizes his mistake of treating Jiang Yanli badly after Wei Wuxian decks him a second time, given the guilty look in his eyes.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Attempted by Wei Wuxian when faced with Jiang Cheng once more, but the latter's response makes it clear that it's useless to try.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Wei Wuxian is petrified with fear when he sees that Xianzi is at Xinglu Ridge, and panics further when the dog starts biting his clothes.
    • The look of surprise on Wei Wuxian's face when Jiang Cheng calls him by his name hints that he knows he's screwed.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Despite Wei Wuxian's cynophobia, he doesn't so much as flinch or yelp when he hears Xianzi's barking at the end of the episode because he's also faced with Jiang Cheng — who he knows spells much bigger trouble than the dog.
  • Psychotic Smirk: Jiang Cheng sports one when he meets Wei Wuxian again, this time alone and defenseless.
  • Suddenly Shouting: While confessing his true feelings to Jiang Yanli, he weakly stammers and mutters a few sentences in before screaming from the top of his lungs, "I was the one who wanted you to come!", and since they were in a mountain, his voice echoes.
  • Tranquil Fury: Besides hitting him right in the face, Wei Wuxian doesn't show his anger in an explosive manner when he chews out Jin Zixuan for being rude to Jiang Yanli once again.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Jiang Cheng doesn't disagree with Wei Wuxian's argument of saving Jin Ling's life once again. This doesn’t stop him from attacking the latter and, if his Psychotic Smirk is any indication, planning to capture and torture him.
Wei Wuxian: Sect Leader Jiang, I was really saving Jin Ling. Why did you hit me again with Zidian?
Jiang Cheng: You know very well why, Wei Wuxian.
