Recap / Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers S3E34 Alien Rangers of Aquitar Part 1

Go To

With the Earth under a spell that physically transforms everything and everyone back by under a decade, Angel Grove is ripe pickings for the attack of giant-sized Lord Zedd, Rita Repulsa, and their Evil Space Alien crew! But will salvation come in the form of Master Vile? Meanwhile, the Rangers, now kids, powerless, but still retaining their knowledge of how things are supposed to be, must make their way through Tengas, out of the city, and to the Command Center!

Tropes

  • Abandoned Warehouse District: Said by Aisha (in the most narmful overacting way possible) when Rita is blasting the city.
  • Call-Back: Tommy says, if the situation were reversed, the Rangers wouldn't hesitate to go to Aquitar to help those in need. Rocky likens it to how they visited Edenoi and befriended Dex.
  • Cliffhanger Cop Out: Downplayed. Master Vile undoes Zedd, Rita, Goldar, and Rito's giant attack on the city, thus removing the most immediate problem from the previous episode's cliffhanger. The overarching problem of the Rangers being de-aged and without their powers or Ninjor remains, but the heroes now have more time to think of a solution.
Rita: FATHER, YOUR TIMING'S ALWAYS BEEN ROTTEN!
  • Dumbass Has a Point: It's Rito who thinks to take full advantage of the situation by attacking the de-aged Rangers directly and stealing their coins.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Among those present for Vile's monster conference is Arachnofiend.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Averted. Master Vile is certain that de-aging the Rangers will make it easier to win, but he knows that it still won't stop them or Zordon from trying. He has whipped up an implosion device and says, when planted in the right spot outside the Command Center, it will destroy both the building and cause a chain reaction that'll permanently wipe out the Morphing Grid.
  • Evil Plan: Master Vile reveals the next step in his ultimate plan: using an implosion device to take out the Morphing Grid and sending down a group of powerful monsters to Earth to create havoc.
  • Foreshadowing: Billy is noticeably quick to take the lead, offering up assorted suggestions on how to proceed and trying to get the others back to the Command Center. In a couple episodes, he will be restored to his proper age and step up as team leader.
  • Godzilla Threshold: Zordon is hesitant to ask the Alien Rangers for help, due to how different Aquitar's environment and what effect Earth's atmosphere would have on their health. Rocky points out they don't have any other options but to ask for their help. Alpha agrees, saying these other Rangers would help no matter what.
  • Handwave: Billy surmises that the reason the Rangers are able to remember the future and how everyone was de-aged while everyone else in Angel Grove can't is because the power coins allowed them to retain their knowledge.
  • "Home Alone" Antics: How the now-child Rangers (and Bulk & Skull) deal with Rito and the Tengas.
  • Lampshade Hanging:
    • Alpha over realizing why the Command Center's systems are offline: unplugging the equipment for the sake of some spring cleaning. Zordon is incredulous that this was simply a matter of an everyday chore rather than some nefarious plot by one of their enemies.
    • Tommy questions why Zordon can't simply give the de-aged Rangers morphing powers. Zordon says that their now reduced effectiveness would increase the chances of them dying in battle, which in turn would (due to the specific nature of the spell) make it impossible to restore everything to normal.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: Master Vile stops Zedd and Rita's giant rampage because he has his own plans for conquering the world. They're not happy with him for ruining their fun.
  • Noodle Incident: Vile says the group he's assembling will be commanded by Professor Longnose, who he says is currently waging a campaign at the Dark Galaxy Star.
  • Police Are Useless: Averted, when they showed up Rito and the Tengas teleport away.
  • Totem Pole Trench: Tommy and Kat pull this to get Billy, Rocky, Aisha, Adam from the police department. It helps that the desk clerk isn't wearing his glasses.
  • Villain Respect: Zedd concedes that Master Vile's implosion device plan has a certain style to it.
  • Wham Episode: Past episodes have implied that there were other teams of Power Rangers out there besides the Mighty Morphin' team, but this is the first time that a full-on team of other rangers besides the main protagonists have been introduced.
  • You Fool!: Master Vile towards Zedd and the others for interfering with his plan by stomping around the city in giant forms.
