Recap / Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers S1E8 I, Eye Guy

Go To

Billy's protégé Willie has invented a virtual ride that he intends to enter into the science fair, but Rita has her own plans for the young genius.

Tropes

  • Attack Its Weak Point: Eye Guy is indestructible unless his main eye (which he can separate from the rest of his body) is destroyed.
  • Behemoth Battle: Dino Megazord vs. Eye Guy.
  • Big "YES!": Trini gives one after Skull falls onto a pull cart.
  • Child Prodigy: Willie.
  • Creepy Crossdresser: Bulk and Skull fall victim to this after being pushed into a fashion-focused student's project.
  • Eyes Do Not Belong There: Eye Guy goes above eleven with this trope.
  • Faceless Eye: Eye Guy disguises himself as this to lure children into his trap.
  • Make My Monster Grow: Done by Rita to Eye Guy.
  • Misplaced Retribution: For some reason, the Professor blames Willie for the ruckus at the science fair, which was actually between Bulk and Skull and the Rangers (Willie was only a spectator), and banned him from the science fair. Also he looked displeased when Willie showed up late.
  • Monster of the Week: Eye Guy.
  • No-Sell: The Power Blaster hits Eye Guy dead on but does not destroy him. This visibly stuns the Rangers, as it marks the first time a Monster of the Week defied a finisher.
  • One-Steve Limit: Possibly averted with Willie.
  • Pocket Dimension: Within Eye Guy's... eye... lies a vortex where he keeps children prisoner.
  • Pungeon Master: Eye Guy.
    "Eye-eye, my Queen!"
  • Secret Handshake: Billy and Willie have a very unique and campy one. They also use a shortened version at the end.
  • Shrunk in the Wash: The hilarious fate of Bulk and Skull's clothes.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Eye Guy is fully capable of protecting his main eye from harm simply by closing it. One wonders why he doesn't just leave it closed all the time, as he's perfectly capable of moving around and fighting while it's shut.
  • Villain Ball: Why capture the kid when instead gaslighting him would have been more effective? He may have asked to be taken to Rita's palace voluntarily, allowing her to put a spell on him.
