Tropes:

  • Adaptational Jerkass: While Mortimer is indeed another one of Mickey's enemies, he was more of a romantic rival for Minnie. Here, Minnie is never shown or mentioned, making Mortimer's antics towards Mickey seem more malicious and For the Evulz.
  • Ascended Extra: Mortimer Mouse, who mainly had a cameo appearance once or twice, is now given a bigger role as the primary antagonist who kicks off the plot.
  • Bullying a Dragon: When Mickey tries to defend Pete being the better bully than Mortimer, Mortimer goes on to insult and belittle Pete... up until he realizes Pete heard everything he said.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Pete reacts to Mickey being bullied by Mortimer as if he were a lover being cheated on.
Pete: So do you hate him more than me?!
  • Electric Joy Buzzer: The first prank Mortimer pulls on Mickey.
  • Friendly Enemy: Sure, Pete might be a bully who picks on Mickey mercilessly, but he's Mickey's bully, and nobody can ever replace him.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Mickey worries about Pete when he's not in is usual spot for Mickey's "three o'clock knuckle sandwich".
  • Oh, Crap!: Mortimer's expression when he finds Pete standing right behind him.
  • Pie in the Face: Mickey brings lots of pies over to Pete so he would them throw them on him. Unfortunately, Mortimer beats Pete to the punch.
  • Punched Across the Room: Pete retaliates to Mortimer's insults by upper-cutting Mortimer across the neighborhood.
  • Visual Pun: Every single piece of furniture in Pete's house is missing a leg and had it crudely replaced with something else - IE, it's all peg legged just like him.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: How the episode portrays Mickey and Pete's relationship. While one of Pete's biggest past times is bullying Mickey Mouse, he actually treats Mickey like a good friend when he isn't bullying him. Mickey, being Mickey, has always treated Pete kindly no matter what he does.
