Go To

"Our Floating Dreams" is the 16th episode of Season 5 of the new Mickey Mouse (2013) series created by Paul Rudish for the Disney Channel and Disney.com. It is the 94th in the series.

Mickey and Minnie vie for the perfect spot to sell their goods at one of Thailand's busiest floating markets. This episode is spoken entirely in Thai.

Tropes:

  • Ass Kicks You: In their first meeting in this short, Minnie knocks away Mickey by hitting him with her rear end.
  • Bilingual Bonus: All the dialogue in the short is in Thai.
  • The Cameo: Chip 'n Dale are the ones who take the empty spot, while Mickey and Minnie are still fighting.
  • Feud Episode: Mickey and Minnie start out competing against each other for a spot at the floating market, although they join forces at the end.
  • Food Porn: The pineapple fried rice looks delicious.
  • Furry Confusion: This cartoon has two non-sapient monkeys stealing Mickey's pineapples, but towards the end a Funny Animal monkey is one of Mickey and Minnie's customers at the market.
  • In-Scene Title Text: The title card is a sign over the floating market.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Minnie is the red oni and Mickey's respectively the blue oni, due to their own boat and background colouration.
  • Rivalry as Courtship: As in many of the international-themed episodes, Mickey and Minnie are playing characters as opposed to themselves. Rather than an established couple, Mickey and Minnie are strangers who run competing businesses. Through some wacky hijinks, they eventually join forces. In the final shot, they accidentally hold hands and shyly blush.
  • Shout-Out: The shot of Minnie's fried rice slicing through Mickey's pineapple recalls the imagery of then-popular mobile game Fruit Ninja.
