Mickey and Minnie must chase after and reclaim a rolling can of film needed for their director's new movie before it's too late.

Tropes

  • Artistic License – Film Production: Mickey and Minnie chasing the film can is somehow recorded on the film itself, as if shot with a camera. In real life, film exposed in such a manner would have been overexposed and completely unusable (not to mentioned dirty and scratched from coming in contact with the floor).
  • Berate and Switch: The director looks like he's about to fire Mickey and Minnie for ruining his movie, but then he raves about their performance on the film and offers to make them big stars.
  • Busby Berkeley Number: While on the hunt to find the film roll, Minnie stumbles onto the set of a synchronized swimming number at one point.
  • The Cameo:
  • Chariot Race: Mickey and Minnie get caught up in one being filmed for a Ben-Hur-style epic.
  • Chewout Fakeout: The director looks at first like he's going to fire Mickey and Minnie for ruining his film when he catches them trying to flee the studio in a taxi, but he instead happily offers to make them stars and feeling that their unintended modifications to the film made it great.
  • Cruel Elephant: The director is a short-tempered elephant who scolds Mickey for interrupting a scene in his film and threatens to fire him and Minnie if they make one more mistake. However, he turns out to be a Jerk with a Heart of Gold when he praises Mickey and Minnie's performances and makes them his newest stars.
  • Fake-Out Opening: The cartoon is at first set up to be a Medieval adventure. Then Mickey steps in front of the camera and the director yells "Cut!", revealing that it's actually a movie being shot.
  • Hope Spot: Mickey actually recovers the film mere moments after stepping outside, only for Minnie to slam into him while trying to help and send the film rolling again.
  • Mythology Gag: Mickey wears a Donald Duck life preserver.
  • Oh, Crap!: Mickey and Minnie when the former accidentally causes the film to roll away.
  • Rent-a-Zilla: One of the sets Mickey wanders into appears to be a Kaiju film, with Mickey wandering through a city miniature and attacked by tiny planes on strings.
  • Rewind Gag: To rewind the film, Mickey places the reel on a chariot wheel and rides it backwards, the background music playing in reverse as he does.
  • Scooby-Dooby Doors: Mickey and Minnie chase the film reel from one soundstage to another, crisscrossing the whole backlot several times.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: When the director intends to look over today's footage, Mickey and Minnie start sweating and quickly make themselves scarce. They were in the process of getting a cab by the time the director caught up with them.
  • Spit Take: The director does one after viewing the finished footage.
  • Watch Where You're Going!: After Mickey grabs the film the first time, he turns around just in time to meet Minnie running the other way. She slams into him so hard that they end up fusing lengthways into a half-Mickey, half-Minnie.
  • Who Dares?: The director in response to Mickey messing up a take.
