Recap / Maya And The Three Chapter 9 The Sun And The Moon

Go To

  • Ask a Stupid Question...: King Teca asks his wife if everything is alright, while she's in labor in the middle of the battle, and she sarcastically answers "yes, everything is fine".
  • Attack on the Heart: In order to kill Lord Mictlan once and for all, Maya enters his massive snake body and reaches his heart.
  • Babies Ever After: The epilogue shows Rico and Chimi now a couple with quadruplets, two boys and two girls.
  • Back for the Finale: Bear-Killah, Vucub, Cabrakan and Cipactli all reappear to aid the four kingdoms against Mictlan.
  • Battle Couple: Cabrakan and Cipactli return to aid the four kingdoms together after Maya helped them fix their marriage.
  • Big Badass Battle Sequence: Between Maya, her friends, and the four kingdoms armies against Lord Mictlan and his own gods and army.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Lord Mictlan and his pantheon of evil gods have been slain for good, plus the relationship between the four kingdoms is now stronger than ever and six new blessings have been bestowed between the king and queen and the newly coupled Rico and Chimi. However, the full body count is absolutely massive and includes none other than Maya herself. Even if Maya got to die on her own terms and became the Sun to Zatz's Moon, Lord Mictlan still managed to achieve a smaller but no-less unfortunate victory.
  • Combining Mecha: Using the full extent of his Peasant Magic, Rico combines the four stone golems he had previously animated into one massive golem to fight against Mictlan's serpent form.
  • Devour the Dragon: Finding himself on the losing side of the battle, Mictlan kills the gods loyal to him and devours their hearts to reach his One-Winged Angel form.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: Mictlan seems genuinely confused that Micte turned against him to protect Maya and pleaded to him to end his violent ambitions. He rejects her pleas and carries on with his massacre.
  • The Great Serpent: Mictlan turns into a massive two-headed serpent that's large enough to easily coil around the Teca royal palace.
  • Pet the Dog: While visibly upset at Micte turning against him, Mictlan doesn't initially react in anger, but out of genuine sadness. He even seems to reach out to her and ask why she would betray him after he'd forgiven her. This quickly gets undercut when Mictlan turns down Micte's plea to end his war, and eventually kills her at the end of the episode.
  • The Hero Dies: Maya sacrifices herself to kill Lord Mictlan and save everyone on the Teca kingdom, becoming a permanent part of the sun.
  • Not Too Dead to Save the Day: With the last of her strength, Micte summons the spirits of those who previously died to aid against Mictlan, with Maya's brothers and Picchu helping her get inside Mictlan's body to kiil him.
  • One-Winged Angel: After consumming the hearts of the remaining gods, Mictlan takes the form of a massive two-headed serpent.
  • Screw This, I'm Out of Here!: Bear-Killah bolts out of the battle when he sees Mictlan's serpent form.
  • Squee: This is Maya's reaction upon discovering that Queen Teca has given birth to twins.
Maya: (gasps happily) Teca twins?! Ay… praise the Celestials, they're so perfect!
  • Tempting Fate: Rico makes the mistake of asking if things could get worse, twice, which even his friends call him out on.
  • Redemption Rejection: Lady Micte asks Mictlan to end his violent ways for her if he really loves her. He refuses.
