The animal shelter in a nearby town is about to do a variety show to raise money, but tickets are selling badly. A man asks for ideas for something they could do to make the show more entertaining, and a woman who heard Martha on the radio suggests having her sing. They phone her, and she agrees to sing on the show, then annoys the Lorraines and Skits by practicing singing.
She goes to rehearse, while a woman has her dog, who is also named Martha, wait outside while she goes to the store. Then, the woman from the animal shelter (Agnes) pulls up and believes the other Martha to be our Martha. Then, she drives off with her. The other Martha's owner exits the store and starts calling her dog, while our Martha (who's arrived) believes she's talking to her. Eventually, Martha realises that the woman is talking to another dog and supposes that the other dog was picked up.
Meanwhile, at the animal shelter, the humans think the other Martha is being a "diva" when she doesn't speak, and she starts eating the food. Meanwhile, our Martha doesn't know where the other shelter is, but she decides Kazuo might know. The animal shelter people think that the other Martha is ready to rehearse, but she rolls on her back instead. Agnes thinks she's warming up and joins in.
Our Martha and the other Martha's owner (whose name is revealed to be Jennifer) explain their situation to Kazuo, while most of the humans at the other shelter join in with the rolling. Then, the other Martha runs around a bit, and when she comes back, the boss shows her the tune he wants her to sing. The other Martha walks off, so he thinks he offended her, and Agnes thinks Martha is being a diva again and wants a grander song. She tells the other Martha what song she'd like to sing.
Meanwhile, Jennifer and our Martha try to reach the other shelter. Agnes tries to find a song for the other Martha, but she's more interested in food and napping. Jennifer and our Martha determine that the animal shelter they want is in a town called Barkley, so they set off.
That night, the show starts, but Martha and Jennifer are stuck in traffic. Martha shouts out the car window, but it doesn't work. They arrive at the shelter, but Martha has laryngitis and the concert isn't at the shelter. Luckily, there's a flyer which says where the concert is. Meanwhile, the audience is bored and wants to hear the singing dog.
The other Martha comes onstage, while our Martha and Jennifer reach the theatre. However, they're stopped by a man who says no dogs allowed. Jennifer explains the situation and tries to have Martha prove it by singing, but she can't because of her laryngitis. Meanwhile, the other Martha starts howling in song, and our Martha and Jennifer enter the building.
On the way home, Martha can talk again due to having drunk a bowl of water but she's still a bit hoarse.
