When Shin Mao, Mao Mao's father, arrives at Pure Heart Valley to visit his son, everyone is put off by his "passive-aggressive" nature. He continuously puts down Mao Mao, despite his heroic endeavors and makes Badgerclops, Adorabat and even Orangusnake uncomfortable. However, Shin Mao changes his tune when Mao Mao is placed in a conflicting position.
This episode contains examples of:
- Bait-and-Switch: During Mao Mao's phone call with his mother, it appears that Mao Mao's father passed away. However, in reality, Shin Mao is just coming for a visit.
- Black Comedy: There's a citizen who tries to bury a dead chicken in the field as Mao Mao and co is flying pass him. As he noticed this, he stopped shoveling for a while and wave at them.
- Calling the Old Man Out: Mao Mao finally reaches his limit, and calls out Shin Mao for his Parental Neglect:
- Shin Mao: I'll straighten this little guy out like that! [snaps his fingers] Besides, I wouldn't want you to embarrass yourself.Mao Mao: Embarrass.. myself? You're worried that I might... embarrass... MYSELF!? You know, sometimes when you're not around, I actually kinda like myself. I think you're more worried that I'll embarrass you!
- Does This Remind You of Anything?: The phone call scene somehow resembles to a family relative calling to the main family or another family member to inform them that someone has passed away.
- Even Evil Has Standards: Orangusnake (along with most everyone else) finds Shin Mao's condescending attitude towards his son to be uncomfortable.
- Innocently Insensitive: It's implied that Shin Mao is not fully aware of how painfully condescending he is. When Mao Mao calls him out, Shin Mao seems to be shocked at the implication he is embarrassed of his own son.
- The Napoleon: Shin Mao is constantly commenting on the size of things, mostly criticizing them for being small. It's revealed it's because he himself is small.
- The Reveal: Shin Mao is revealed to be just as small as Mao Mao, and wearing Powered Armor to make himself look larger.
- So Proud of You: In his own way, Shin Mao finally expresses pride in his son.
- Shin Mao: (to Mao Mao) You are not small.
- This Is Something He's Got to Do Himself: When Mao Mao goes to take on the monster at the end, Badgerclops keeps himself and Adorabat out of it, believing he needs to do it on his own to work out his issues with his father.
