Armed with Anne Pellegrini's allegations about Dumont, who is now the chief commissioner of Paris' police force, Assane bugs his house and makes plans to kidnap and interrogate him on a day when he is set to have a meeting at one of Paris' town halls. Dressed as an IT worker, Assane gets into the room where Dumont is and loudly claims that there is an issue surrounding the presence of porn on his work computer. Mortified, Dumont leaves the meeting and allows Assane to lead him into a deserted corridor, where Assane knocks him unconscious before taking him to a cellar underneath the town hall.

To Dumont's horror, he wakes to discover that he has been kidnapped and is handcuffed to a chair. In an adjacent room, Assane begins interrogating him over a loudspeaker about his initial investigation into the disappearance of the queen's necklace, accusing him of colluding with Hubert Pellegrini to frame Babakar. Dumont desperately claims that the work he did was completely clean and above-board, asserting that he legitimately believed that Babakar was guilty. The interrogation goes awry when a furious Assane accidentally lets slip that he is Babakar's son. He leaves shortly before the police arrive on the scene and rescue Dumont, who states that he does not know the identity of his kidnapper.

Flashback scenes reveal that in 1995, Dumont found evidence that firmly ruled Babakar out of having stolen the necklace. Hubert Pellegrini, on the other hand, had had its insurance policy increased shortly before it went missing. Putting two and two together, Dumont realized that Hubert was intending to commit insurance fraud while setting Babakar up as the Fall Guy; however, when he confronted Hubert, the powerful businessman made vague threats against Dumont's wife while asserting that he'd get off scot-free for whatever he did as a result of his friendship with Dumont's superiors. Ultimately, Dumont agreed to comply with Hubert's plan to imprison Babakar.

Tropes that appear in this episode:

  • Arc Words: Towards the end of Assane's interrogation, he asserts that Dumont is neither a barbarian nor a knight, referencing to a set of discussions he'd had with Claire shortly after they met for the first time as teenagers, as depicted in the 1995 Flashback sequences.
  • Blackmail: In order to extract a confession from Dumont about his actions regarding Babakar's imprisonment, Assane threatens to tell the beleaguered commissioner's wife about all of his illegal dealings.
  • Bottle Episode: A large proportion of this episode takes place in Assane's interrogation room in the basement of one of Paris' town halls, with a number of generally key characters (e.g. Benjamin and Raoul) not appearing at all.
  • Crazy Enough to Work: Assane hides Dumont in the same town hall he'd originally kidnapped him from. It's a completely ridiculous idea and it works exactly as Assane expected it to.
  • The Cuckoolander Was Right: Turns out Arsène Lupin fanboy Guédira was entirely correct about Dumont's location, despite Laugier and Belkacem ridiculing him.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This episode mainly focuses on Dumont, to the point where we get several flashbacks from his perspective.
  • The Gadfly: Assane's love for trolling the cops manifests itself clearly here. When Laugier, Belkacem, and Guédira arrive at the place where they initially believe Dumont to be, they find only a crate containing a clown doll.
  • Gadgeteer Genius: Assane's talents for hacking and creating deepfakes are revealed in this episode.
  • Mood Whiplash: Assane briefly pauses his interrogation with Dumont to have a very personal and emotional phone conversation with Claire about the state of his relationship with their son, and her worries about him. She also easily deduces that he's up to no good and pleads with him to fill her in on what's actually going on; in response he tells her that she does not want to know.
  • Mook Promotion: It's suggested that Hubert's influence got Dumont his current position as Da Chief of the Paris police department.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: In a desperate ploy to get on Assane's good side, Dumont tries to claim this about himself and Babakar (i.e. both did questionable and illegal things for the sake of their children).
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Frustrated that Dumont is refusing to give him the information that he wants, Assane loses his cool and yells about "my father," instantly revealing his identity.
  • Pressure Point: How Assane knocks Dumont unconscious before taking him to the basement of the town hall and tying him up.
  • Shower of Angst: Dumont takes one following his rescue by the other officers, remembering the Deal with the Devil he made with Hubert Pellegrini in order to frame Babakar for the necklace theft.
  • Voice Changeling: While conducting his interrogation, Assane uses a voice modifier in an attempt to conceal his identity from Dumont.
  • Xanatos Gambit: After kidnapping Dumont, Assane gives him the chance to come clean. Seemingly outplayed by his foe, Assane bugs Dumont's house and makes preparations to release the information he's got on the crooked cop for his misdeeds.
