Recap / Lucifer (2016) S02E18 "The Good, the Bad and the Crispy"

Go To

"Charlotte" has run out of time; she must use the Flaming Sword to return to Heaven or her human vessel will explode in light, killing countless humans. One of them might even be Chloe.

Tropes present in this episode include:

  • Amnesiac Lover: Since it's not really Charlotte Richards whom Dan was having a relationship with for the past year, when the real Charlotte is resurrected at the end, she understandably doesn't recognize him.
  • Back from the Dead: The real Charlotte Richards wakes up after Mother leaves her body. Keep in mind that in the season's first episode, she was stabbed in neck by a screwdriver.
  • Cliffhanger: While Lucifer is calling Chloe to promise her that he will reveal everything about him, he gets knocked out from behind by a mysterious assailant. When he wakes up, Lucifer is undressed, beaten up, and in the middle of a desert. But most of all, he somehow has his wings back.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: Mother first threatens Linda into revealing Lucifer's real plan; when Linda refuses, Mother resorts to more violent methods.
  • Continuity Nod: When the real Charlotte wakes up on the beach she touches the back of her neck, the place she was stabbed when she died.
  • Duct Tape for Everything: It can even be used to patch up a literal Goddess' wound.
  • Foreshadowing: When Las Vegas was brought up, Ella mentioned her time there that was "not pretty". We'll find out what she meant next season.
  • He's Back!:
    • Having made peace with himself and with his role as God's soldier, Amenadiel has regained some of his former powers.
    • Lucifer has his wings back.
  • I Have Your Wife: Mother essentially takes Chloe hostage to force Lucifer and Amenadiel to hand over the Flaming Sword. Actually, she threatens all of the people in the pier, and possibly the entire Earth, since we don't know how powerful her divine essence is, but Lucifer clearly takes her threatening Chloe to heart the most.
  • Meaningful Echo: "Going backwards isn't good for anyone." Chloe says this to Lucifer when she sees that Lucifer is still keeping secrets and about his family issues. Later Lucifer says this to Mother about her wanting to return to Heaven.
  • Mundane Solution: Mother's light-leaking wound is patched up first with staplers and later with duct tape.
  • Never My Fault: While being confronted by Lucifer for all the things she's done since arriving on Earth, Mother tells him it's all God's fault for forcing her hand.
  • Not Me This Time: Mother didn't kill one of the cleaner girls, it was Hector Ruiz.
  • Not That Kind of Doctor: In Linda's own words, "patching people up isn't [her] thing". Mother doesn't care, she demands that Linda patch her up.
  • Or Are You Just Happy to See Me?: Amenadiel had hidden the last piece of the Flaming Sword in Dan's pocket. So, when Lucifer scans him with the sword, it looks for a moment like Dan is, er, excited to see him.
  • Outliving One's Offspring: By the end of the episode, Bianca Ruiz has lost of both of her sons.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: Lucifer uses this reasoning to convince Mother from confronting God, reminding her than in every war, there will always be casualties.
  • Saying Too Much: When she sees Mother's wound, a shocked Linda asks if Lucifer did that before pulling herself together and backtracking; it's enough to get Mother suspicious about Lucifer's real agenda.
  • Shout-Out: "Minions day out?"
  • So Proud of You: Not said word-for-word, but this is clearly Lucifer's reaction upon realizing that Amenadiel has regained his power.
Lucifer: (smiling) Amenadiel, you son of a bitch.
  • Take a Third Option: Instead of killing his mother or sending her to Heaven (or Hell), Lucifer opens a portal to the void, where she can create her own world away from God.
  • Title Drop
Linda: I walked into this with my eyes wide open, chose to be your friend and face all that comes with it. The good, the bad and the crispy.
  • Traumatic Superpower Awakening: Amenadiel is able to reactive his time-slowing power upon realizing that Linda will not arrive at the hospital alive without a divine intervention.
  • Undressing the Unconscious: Whoever knocks Lucifer unconscious also takes off his suit, since when he wakes up, he is shirtless.
  • Verbal Backspace: Linda, after her Saying Too Much moment, tries to cover up her slip of the tongue; Mother isn't convinced.
  • Wham Shot: The very end of the episode shows that Lucifer has gotten his wings back.
  • White Sheep: Hector moved to Mexico to get away from the family business. He tried to bring Chet with him, but he was already immersed into the business. Yet Hector still cared for his brother, willing to murder to avenge him.
