  • Gratuitous French: Mrs. Oleson is convinced that the new doctor is French because of his name LeDoux and because he came from New Orleans, so she starts learning French expressions just to impress him, and gets disappointed to learn he's not only not French, but black.
  • Heel Realization:
    • Dr. Baker, when he realizes his own racist attitudes have undermined Dr. LeDoux's trust in the community. This comes after LeDoux successfully performs a Caesarian section on a young woman who is having severe difficulties with delivering her baby.
      • My God, What Have I Done?: In not so many words, Dr. Baker's thoughts to the above. He realizes that had he attempted to try to treat the pregnant woman, it would likely have ended in her death and the death of the baby.
    • Mr. Sherman seems to have had one after Dr. LeDoux's caesarian saves his wife and baby, though he limits his gratitude to saying "I guess I should say thank you".
  • Not So Above It All: Without realizing it, Dr. Baker shows overt prejudice if not outright racism with his behavior toward Dr. LeDoux. Otherwise, he's a good man and is generally welcoming to everyone.
  • Redemption Quest: Dr. Baker, realizing he was wrong about his own attitudes about Dr. LeDoux, begs the community for forgiveness and pleads for them to give him a chance.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Although Dr. LeDoux and his wife decide to stay in Walnut Grove after Dr. Baker publicly apologizes to them, he makes only a brief minor appearance in a subsequent episode, and neither he nor his wife are ever seen again thereafter.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: Dr. Baker, who is clearly uncomfortable with Dr. LeDoux because he's black and winds up giving him menial tasks.
