Tropes associated with this episode:

  • Awful Wedded Life: Caroline goes to visit the enraged Mr. Kennedy (who leads the side that opposes to the bell made by the Olesons) and his family. He's shown to yell in front of his wife, then at his wife, who closes her eyes and leaves with her hands on her ears.
  • Cute Mute: Tinker Jones is innocent to a fault – friendly, generous, non-judgmental … and the children – even Nellie Oleson, although her most famous character traits had not fully been established just yet – immediately pick up on his message.
  • Production Foreshadowing: When Harriet offers to donate a bell to the church (to include a plaque honoring said contribution), Mr. Kennedy speculates that she might later try changing the town's name to Olesonville; years later, this would actually happen briefly in the season 9 episode "Welcome to Olesonville".
  • Remember the New Guy?: Tinker Jones is said to never miss a church sermon. He'd never appeared prior to this episode and never reappears afterward.
  • Special Guest: Chuck McCann, as the titular Tinker Jones.
