Recap / Legacies S1E7 "Death Keeps Knocking on My Door"

Go To

Alaric and Hope interrogate the Necromancer, who is dismayed that no one remembers him. Meanwhile, Rafael's girlfriend Cassie returns from the dead and blames him for her death. Kaleb tries to teach M.G. how to drink human blood but learns that M.G. is a potential ripper, so drinking human blood could send him on a murderous rampage.

  • The Bad Guy Wins: The Necromancer has been playing Hope all this time. He uses Cassie to steal the knife, which turns out to be one of the three keys that open Malivore, and magically drops it into Malivore before teleporting away.
  • Break the Haughty: After recklessly convincing M.G. to feed on a human and nearly killing said human, Dorian proceeds to rip into Kaleb over his actions. He explains how M.G. has the potential to becoming a Ripper, how Dorian's family were murdered by another ripper, and how the library and the school he loves to work at is named after said Ripper: Stefan Salvatore. Kaleb is actually in tears by the end as he realizes how badly he screwed up.
  • Drowning My Sorrows: Turns out Ric has been hiding the bottle again after everything that happened with Jo in the previous episode as Hope calls him out on.
  • I Gave My Word: Despite manipulating her in order to send the knife to Malivore the Necromancer keeps his word to Hope, not only telling her everything he's learned about Malivore, but also about the state of Klaus after his death.
  • Journey to the Center of the Mind: Hope uses M.G. to enter the Necromancer's mind in order to learn what happened to him in Malivore. Instead, the Necromancer starts playing games with Hope, trapping her there.
  • Pulled from Your Day Off: Dorian only ever takes one day off every year - the Remembrance Day. He's extremely annoyed when he is forced to intervene after Kaleb almost causes M.G. to become a ripper after he starts feeding on a human. He explains that visiting his family's graves on Remembrance Day is his way of coping with their murder by Stefan Salvatore and the only way he can manage to spend the rest of the year in a place where Stefan once lived.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: The Necromancer always pronounces his moniker in a theatrical manner, as if everyone should know it, and gets very annoyed when no one does. He eventually learns that no one remembers him or his contribution to the field of necromancy (which is apparently named after him) thanks to Malivore.
  • Tantrum Throwing: After the Necromancer learns that his contributions to the world have been almost completely erased thanks to Malivore he proceeds to trash his jail cell.
  • The Reveal:
    • Malivore is not only a prison, but a supernatural creature in of itself; one created long ago to purge other supernaturals from the face the Earth and from human memory. The knife plays some some part in trapping these monsters until it was sealed away with the knife becoming one of three keys to unleash it once again.
    • There turns out to be a very good reason why M.G. has only ever drank animal blood: his personality makes him the perfect candidate to become a Ripper just like Stefan Salvatore and others. Doubles as an Internal Reveal when Dorian angrily explains this to Kaleb and why the school gives the vampire students animal blood in general.
    • On a more personal note, The Necromancer tells Hope that Klaus doesn't regret his Heroic Sacrifice and watches over his daughter everyday...but he'll never find peace until Hope does.
  • Vegetarian Vampire: It turns out there's a very good reason why M.G. should stick to animal blood. Drinking human blood has a chance of turning him into a ripper and going on a murderous rampage. Even Kaleb is horrified, since he doesn't actually want anyone to get hurt.
  • You Are Not My Father: After Alaric calls Hope out for trying to use the Necromancer Hope angrily tells him not to give her the "disappointed dad look" and tells him that he is not her father.
