Recap / Learning How to Be a Princess Chapter 4 "The Owl Lady"

Go To

Luz wanders off and meets Eda the Owl Lady, a powerful witch who enlists her help to— wait, this sounds familiar.

Tropes That Appear In This Chapter:

  • The Bore: Apparently, Lilith is such a bad teacher that it took her forty minutes to she realize that Luz had left early on during her lecture, while Amity quickly tuned her out to casually read her Good Witch Azura book.
  • Internal Reveal: The chapter ends with Eda learning that Luz is Emperor Belos's daughter from a gloating Lilith.
  • Let No Crisis Go to Waste: After seeing that Luz is hanging out with Eda, Lilith decides to use the opportunity to capture her sister.
  • Let Us Never Speak of This Again: When Luz asked what the giraffes did to get banished to Earth, Eda implies that it was so horrifying that no one ever wants to talk about it.
  • Metaphorically True: Eda questions Luz's identity after she reveals Lilith is her teacher, since Lilith only mentors Emperor's Coven recruits. Luz eventually settles on saying that her father is a coven head who made the request, which considering that being the Emperor makes Belos the head of all covens, is technically true.
  • The Stations of the Canon: Despite the wildly different circumstances of how Luz came to the Boiling Isles, many of the plot beats from the first episode still occur here; finding and befriending Eda, getting escorted to the Owl House after being confused for her accomplice, and breaking into the Conformitorium.
