Tropes

  • Adults Are Useless: Hunter's mom (Rita Wilson) is basically this.
  • Air Vent Passage Way: Hunter escapes from the MRI room via one of these.
  • Bittersweet Ending: Hunter kills the babysitter that led him to what he did in the episode. But since he is still guilty of all the rapes he had done in the past several days, he decided to take whatever punishment. Fortunately, since his action were stemmed from past trauma, he was institutionalized to get the proper help he desperately needed.
  • Calling Parents by Their Name: During a phone call to his mother, Hunter keeps calling her Bree, making obvious his contempt for her.
  • "Could Have Avoided This!" Plot: Hunter deeply resents his mother for not pressing charges against the woman who he claims molested him and getting him counseling (her reason being that she wanted his life to be "normal"). Had she done either of these things, he might have turned out differently.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Thankfully for Annie, averted, as she catches Hunter lying in wait in her bed before he has a chance to do her harm. Subverted later, when she, Munch, and Stabler learn he'd been camped out in her closet for days prior, staking her out and...stuff.
  • Freudian Excuse: Hunter claims to have been molested by his babysitter and his mother basically brushed the whole issue aside due to her high status.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: Hunter's babysitter may have molested him as a child. At the end of the episode, he kills her, claiming it is so that she can't traumatize anyone else.
  • Idiot Ball: Cops, judges and prosecutors enable Hunter's crime wave via stupid mistakes, all the way up to Tutuola not guarding Hunter in the MRI room, enabling him to attack the MRI tech and escape undetected (eventually murdering the woman he claims molested him).
  • Meaningful Name: "Hunter" is a pretty apt name for a teenage sexual predator.
  • Stay in the Kitchen: If Hunter's mom hadn't been high-powered, she wouldn't have left him with someone eho he claims is a pedophile babysitter. This seems to be what inspired him to target corporate people.
  • Teens Are Monsters: See above. Hunter has been raping women since he was a young teenager and is also a bratty aggressive alcoholic.
  • Troubling Unchildlike Behavior: Hunter's behavior is superficially childlike and impulsive but also unusually mature for a rapist his age - Benson notes that teen rapists generally target younger victims and his M.O. is sophisticated.
  • Troubled Abuser: Hunter is an alcoholic rapist who claims to have been molested by his babysitter as a young kid.
  • You Hate What You Are: Hunter loathes his abusive babysitter but it hasn't stopped him from raping several businesswomen.
