Recap / Lab Rats S 1 EP 5 Rats On A Train

Go To

Adam, Bree and Chase are faced with their first official mission when a super-fast train created by Donald, carrying explosive nuclonium, goes out of control and is headed for the neighboring city of Welkerville. Donald intends on bringing his auxiliary decelerator to stop it, but Leo, out of envy for not being able to join his new siblings in the mission, sneaks into the decelerator's bag to do so.

Tropes:

  • Contrived Coincidence: Tasha's first truly relevant story, after years of covering nothing but singing dogs and babies that look like ex-presidents, just so happens to be about the runaway train her husband created, and where her son and stepchildren just so happen to be in, trying to stop it.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: Leo namedropping Wile E. Coyote is what gives the Lab Rats the idea to use their unbreakable repelling ropes to stop the train, alongside Bree's Super-Speed and Adam's Super-Strength. Although Leo is hesitant ("Did I mention Wile E. Coyote dies in every episode?"), it ends up working.
  • Foreshadowing: At the start of the episode, Donald plans to frost Chase, bake Bree, and submerge Adam. All of these end up happening, in some capacity, in later episodes.
  • Future Spandex: The new mission suits that Adam, Bree and Chase get, of the "access to technology magnitudes more advanced than the norm" variety.
Adam: Ooh! I see you put in seat warmers! [grins and wriggles his hips]
  • Hi, Mom!: Leo plays with it at the end, in that his mom is the very reporter who's interviewing him at the moment.
  • "Metaphor" Is My Middle Name:
Bree: Leo, this is too dangerous for you.
Leo: Please. My middle name is "Danger".
Adam: I thought it was "Francis".
    Leo: It's pronounced "Danger"!
  • Runaway Train: The catalyst of the episode's events.
