Season 1, Episode 11: Tyrdra

Tropes That Appear In This Episode:

  • Fantasy Counterpart Appliance: Camille's ability of a hive mind between her heads and stretching her neck without apparent limit is used by the Krapopolites as a telecommunications system, which soon evolves into a form of internet over cellphones.
  • Hydra Problem: Camille is an interpretation of the Trope Namer and her heads do regenerate and multiply when cut but she can effectively be pruned by cutting below the split closer to the base of the neck so only two regenerate from the stump.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: Camille is so distraught over being treated like a monster that she is Driven to Suicide. She likes being used by the Krapopolites because they like her for her service.
  • Internet Jerk: Camille being an ersatz internet soon develops the same problems as modern day such as addiction, clout-chasing, anonymity and being validated against all reason either by like-minded individuals or Camille herself.
  • Multiple Head Case: Played with. The Hydra has a single name, and while the heads speak independently, they use "I" to refer to the entire Hydra and sometimes finish each other's sentences.
  • Non-Malicious Monster: Camille the Hydra may look threatening, but she is rather polite and doesn't get angry when she's insulted
  • Our Hydras Are Different: Like most depictions of her Greek counterpart, the Hydra in this episode is depicted as a dragon-like monster with five heads. However, she is fully sapient and capable of speech, with each head having the same personality.
  • Shout-Out: The ending scene between Camille and Stupendous is a direct shout-out to the ending scene of Rocky III, as the two friends talk about how they never did settle the question of who would win in a fight; they agree to a friendly sparring match to settle the question. Stupendous even begins dancing around like a boxer, and as the two combatants throw their first blows at each other, the scene pauses and changes into the exact same painting style as Rocky and Apollo Creed.
