Recap / Kingdom Hearts III Secret Episode

Go To

The episode starts with Sora waking up in the nighttime version of the Final World. Calling out to someone, Sora crosses paths with Yozora, who is revealed to be the person the Nameless Star spoke of, with Sora surprised that Yozora is real after all. Yozora reveals that he's heard of Sora's name, but ends up dropping vague hints about what's going on (he says it's not the real world, what Sora's seeing isn't his true appearance, and he asks why Sora is using Sora's name, implying he knows someone else named Sora) that only fuel Sora's confusion. Yozora immediately attacks Sora, claiming he was told to "save him" after he accidentally wandered into this place and went through some trials. Sora and Yozora battle atop the 104 Building in a city that resembles Shibuya, which ends in Sora's victory, and Yozora states his power isn't needed yet before he disappears into light. Sora finds himself back in the Final World while Yozora wakes up in a car driven by someone who sounds suspiciously like Luxord. Both wonder if they what experienced was a dream as Sora states none of this makes sense to him.

If Sora is defeated, a non-canon ending occurs where Sora's body is crystallized, with Yozora apologizing and vowing to save him before he ends up in the Final World. Yozora wakes up in the car, both him and Sora wondering if what they experienced was a dream, with Yozora stating none of this makes sense to him.

Tropes:

  • Book Ends: "I've been having these weird thoughts lately... like, is any of this for real or not?" The very first game opens with Sora saying this, while Re Mind's Secret Episode ends with him and Yozora saying the same thing.
  • SNK Boss: Yozora is probably the franchise's biggest example ever. He'll commence the battle with a random move from his kit, including his ultimate attack, can siphon your health and items (even the Kupo Coin, and yes, it heals him to half of his health if he's defeated), and can even steal the Keyblade and use it against you.
  • Wham Shot: The shot of Yozora waking up in a car mirrors the early trailers of Final Fantasy XV, back when it was Versus XIII. His driver even asks the same question as Noctis's.

"I've been having these weird thoughts lately... like, is any of this for real or not?"
"None of this... makes sense to me."
