Go To

Hank's dream comes true when Bobby's talent for meat grading lands him on a school team, specifically the local college's meat examination team. But Bobby soon finds making his dad proud is hard with his oddball teammates.

Tropes found in this episode:

  • Book Ends: Way back in episode 1, the show begins with an early morning overhead shot of Arlen, dropping down on Hank and friends. The show ends with the camera panning up at dusk.
  • Hidden Depths: It's discovered in this episode that Bobby has an uncanny natural talent at grading cuts of meat.
  • If I Had a Nickel...: Hank says "If I had a nickel for every time I buckled under pressure, I'd have five nickels."
  • Karma Houdini: The opposing team is never suspected of their actions for trying to cheat their way to victory in the meat examination championship. The closest they get to a comeuppance is that Bobby handily beats them in the match.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall:
    • When Bobby picks up the last steak, he comments on how "this is the last one" (referencing the fact that this is the final episode). Hank disagrees, as Bobby has lots more cooking to look forward to in the future.
    • In the same scene, Hank tells Bobby that he's "waited 13 years" to hear that Bobby's found something he enjoys doing with his dad.
  • The Reveal: In the final moments of the episode, Boomhauer's wallet flops open to reveal a Texas Ranger badge.
  • So Proud of You: Hank expresses immense pride in Bobby's aptitude for grading cuts of meat.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: The terrorists who hijack the bus Hank and crew are an example of this. They are never seen again after leaving the bus in the ditch, making it unknown if they got away with their actions or not. We also never see the original bus driver being replaced by them, similarly leaving their fate ambiguous.
