- And Your Reward Is Clothes: Out of gratitude for helping her, Peggy gives the other drag queens her old clothes.
- Continuity Nod: Peggy's shoe store in Lubbock has closed, after previously appearing all the way in Season 1 during "Order of the Straight Arrow."
- Covert Pervert: Minh compares the clothing exchange to a key party. When the other wives are shocked, she backtracks and says "so I've heard." She is also the only one who seems to notice that the club Peggy is going to is a drag show.
- Drag Queen: Carolyn identifies as one, alternating between her male identity of Jamie, and her drag persona of Carolyn.
- Lady Looks Like a Dude: Carolyn thinks Peggy is a fellow drag queen, because she was shopping at a drag store, but realizes her error once she sees a photo of Peggy pregnant with Bobby.
- Noodle Incident: Minh heavily implies that her and Kahn have swinged in the past.
- Open-Minded Parent: Too open-minded in this case. Carolyn's mother is heavily supportive of her, but it sometimes backfires.
- Real Women Don't Wear Dresses: Carolyn and the other drag queens envy Peggy for not being typically feminine, especially since her clothing fits them easily, and is very stylish. Hank himself also doesn't mind if Peggy is this way, because his definition of feminine is a wife and mother.
- Weirdness Censor: Hank keeps referring to Jamie and Carolyn as two separate people, despite being told repeatedly by Peggy that Carolyn is a man who dresses like a woman. It's ambiguous if he is doing this because he couldn't understand why a man would want to do so, or if this is the only way he can accept it.
- Wholesome Crossdresser: Carolyn is a man named Jamie, who dresses up like her, but she is a sweet woman who helps Peggy discover her inner worth, despite not being traditionally feminine.
