Recap / King Of The Hill S 11 E 12 Luckys Wedding Suit

Go To

In what was supposed to be the final episode of the series, Lucky wants to give Luanne the expensive wedding that she desires, so he sues Dale with a frivolous lawsuit after having an accident on the job.

Tropes:

  • Batman Gambit: In order to get Lucky to reconsider his lawsuit against Hank and Strickland, Dale suggests to Lucky that he fake his (real) injury. This works until they get to the law firm, where Lucky's lawyer almost sees right through it. Forcing Dale to cause an impromptu sword fight in the office just like the one that got Lucky to get injured in the first place.
  • Book Ends: The original ending had the "camera" follow a mosquito into the sky as an inverse to how the pilot episode started.
  • Canon Discontinuity: The original ending had the gang reminisce about earlier episodes. When Bill mentions stealing a tank Hank tells him that that and Hank being born in New York were dreams that Bill had after eating at a Hungarian restaurant.
  • Comic-Book Time: Parodied in the original ending where Hank said Luanne moved in a year ago but it feels like ten.
  • Hiding the Handicap: Dale suggests this in order to get Strickland off the hook of being sued; with him, Hank and Lucky filming a forged video of Lucky pretending to be perfectly fine while still in agony. Lucky later has to pass for being healthy when at his lawyer's office. The ruse is almost ruined by the lawer dropping the video casette on the floor and noticing Lucky doesn't immediately pick it up and to confirm his suspicions, he drops his pen on the floor, prevents Hank and Dale from picking it up first and asking Lucky why he's not picking it up if he's as healthy as he claims to be, which he then tries to do but is in too much pain to reach for it. Thankfully, Hank salvages the situation by goading Dale and Lucky into a sword fight similar to the one that initially injured Lucky, putting the lawyer in a situation where there's video evidence of Lucky being healthy and there's witnesses of him injuring himself in his office, opening him up for a lawsuit.
  • Idiot Houdini: Dale pretty much gets out of any real consequences after he shifts the blame over to Strickland. He's even the one to convince Lucky to not sue the institution by pretending to fake the injury.
  • Money Dumb:
    • Luanne keeps asking for a frilly, expensive wedding throughout the episode, unaware that Lucky's lawsuit winnings are running extremely low, and when Lucky tells her that he only has 9 thousand dollars left of the sum he's gotten, she still insists on it and demands him to get a job if necessary. She ultimately settles on a wedding that has few frills in the Hills' backyard.
    • Lucky himself isn't much better, having spent most of his initial earnings on his truck. After receiving his second check, he decides to instead put it towards a down payment on a house.
  • Jerkass Ball: Luanne grabs it in order to have an expensive wedding. She doesn't mind taking Dale's house or suing Strickland to get the money, ignores Hank trying to tell her why it's wrong, and when Lucky suggests they instead use his new lawsuit for a house, she groans that "he must've been talking to Uncle Hank!"
  • Never My Fault: Dale, in an attempt to get off the hook from being sued, shifts the blame for Lucky's injury over to Srickland Propane, citing that they're too big to fall.
  • Oh, Crap!: Upon seeing Lucky getting "injured" in his office, the lawyer realizes he and his law firm would be in big trouble if they were sued. He pays off Lucky the same amount as when he slipped and fell the first time in order to get out of being sued.
  • Series Fauxnale: Originally planned to be the original Series Finale, only for two more seasons to be produced after this. This is why many past characters, including a few one-offs, show up for Luanne and Lucky's wedding ceremony.
