Go To

Bill turns his house into a rehabilitation center for alcoholics when he finds out how good he's at caring for people.

This episode contains examples of:

  • Call-Back: Peggy recalls having to castrate her horse when she was a child; in "A Rover Runs Through It", she told Hank that her mother made her castrate her gelding horse, Missoula.
  • Condescending Compassion: Draper is this towards the people he claims to care about. When he blathers on to Hank about his Guatemalan coffee, his own Guataemalan housekeeper simply rolls her eyes.
  • Corrupt Corporate Executive: Draper ultimately turns out to be welfare scammer: he's claiming that all the money is going towards expanding the Opportunity House, only for him to pocket it all for himself, and when he suckers Bill into taking care of most of the alcoholics at his own home, he shuts the whole place down, claiming the expansion plans fell through, and sends all the rest of them to Bill's house. Hank exposes his scheme when he finds out that he's been collecting 600 dollars for each alcoholic monthly and that Draper's been telling his staff to run every check by him.
  • Gross Up Closeup: Joe Jack eating his eclair, which drives Hank to vomit.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: After Hank figures out Draper's plan, he redirects the checks to Bill, who then uses the money to rent and convert the house opposite to Draper's house in the gated community he lives in into a second Bill's House, forcing him to live right next to them.
  • Learning to Ride a Bike: Bobby teaches Peggy to ride a bike after she makes a fever-induced promise to learn, as she never learned as a kid (growing up in Montana, she rode horses instead). Unfortunately, she just can't figure it out.
  • Münchausen Syndrome: Bill tries to induce Munchausen by proxy by putting ipecac in the Hill family's food so they'll get sick enough for Bill to keep caring for them. Luckily Hank notices and calls him out first.
  • Sick Episode: The first act has the Hill family all come down with the flu. Bill taking care of them is what spurns him to get into volunteering.
