Go To

Release Date: August 14, 1999

Kenan and Kel are in charge of picking up Kenan's cousin Eric's girlfriend, Melissa. However, things go awry when Melissa gets a concussion and runs away.

  • Accidental Kidnapping: Kenan and Kel do this to Melissa since they thought she was Eric's girlfriend.
  • Actually Pretty Funny:
    • The thug loves the orange soda tattoo Kel gave him earlier.
    • At the end, Kel laughs like crazy when he finally pieces together they picked up the wrong woman.
  • All for Nothing: Hilariously done at the end; turns out the Melissa they picked up wasn't Eric's girlfriend and she never had amnesia.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center: The thug is actually shown to be a nice guy. He loved the orange soda tattoo Kel gave him, and he was very protective of Melissa when she became his girlfriend. While he did try to attack Kenan and Kel, it was because Kel was stupidly egging him on and he only had Melissa's account of the two kidnapping and assaulting her without the duo's Sympathetic P.O.V..
  • Bullying a Dragon: While Kenan is trying to explain the situation at the biker bar, Kel insults the thug's appearance.
  • Captain Obvious: When Kenan realizes they picked up the wrong Melissa, Kel has this to say:
Kel: Wait a minute! I know what happened! We picked up the wrong girl from the airport.
  • Cassandra Truth: Kenan and Kel think Melissa has amnesia when she tells them she isn't Eric's girlfriend.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • The fact that Kenan pointed out Eric never told them what Melissa looked like is an important detail
    • Kel mistakes an old white woman named Melissa as the one they're supposed to pick up, seconds before the one that would better fit what Eric's girlfriend would be steps out. While this is another example of Kel's stupidity, it hints that they got the wrong Melissa.
  • Hypocritical Humor: Kel assisted Kenan in bringing over the wrong Melissa, yet he calls out Kenan for being "irresponsible" when they find out they never picked up the right Melissa.
  • Irony: The actual Melissa the boys were supposed to pick up is the only one to not say a single word.
  • Laser-Guided Amnesia: Subverted. Melissa apparently loses her memory from getting hit with a suitcase by Kel during an argument with an old lady and forgot Eric was her boyfriend. As it turns out, she really wasn't Eric's girlfriend.
  • Look Behind You: Kenan tells the thugs to look at "The Great Wall of China" in order to escape. Kel falls for it as well.
  • Never My Fault: Eric singles out Kenan and Kel for not picking up his girlfriend, even though he never told them what she looked like.
  • Noodle Incident: Apparently, the tattoo woman's mother once got rabies after being bitten by an alligator. Dovetails with The Ditz meets In-Universe Factoid Failure, as rabies can only be spread through a mammal's bite.
  • Planet of Steves: This episode has three women named Melissa, though their last names are never mentioned.
  • Poor Communication Kills: If Eric had told Kenan and Kel what his girlfriend looked like, they would have avoided all their troubles. Not that Eric ever acknowledges this.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Turns out the Melissa they were trying to keep safe wasn't the Melissa they were supposed to be watching after.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Kel doesn't know how a microwave works.
  • Wham Shot: As Kenan and Kel head downstairs, Eric is shown with his girlfriend, revealing they picked up the wrong woman.
    Kenan: Who is that?
Eric: This is my girlfriend, Melissa. The one you were supposed to pick up at the airport and didn't.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy: Kel believes Melissa will get her memory back from hitting her on the head again. Kenan rightfully points out this is ineffective.
