Recap / Justice League Action S 1 E 49 Captain Bamboozle

Go To

Billy's uncle Dudley, wanting to help out, guides the bystanders away from the scene as Shazam and a few other heroes deal with Felix Faust and his armored army. Meanwhile, Mr. Mxyzptlk watches the battle and spots an opportunity for mischief. He impersonates the wizard who gave Shazam his powers and grants similar abilities to Dudley as "Captain Bamboozle". The eager but inexperienced new hero then sets out to save the day....

Tropes:

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: The cat rescued from the tree shows up later as a giant, who does quite a bit of damage simply by brushing up against buildings and the like.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: Batman distracts the giant cat by using a bat-signal light like a laser pointer.
  • Balloon Belly: At one point, Dudley drinks up an entire pool of water to stop a fire in a building, but stumbles a bit due to being so full.
  • Batman Gambit: How Dudley saves the day. He resumes crowd control to get Mxyzptlk to approach and demand he get involved. Dudley says he will by using the Kltpzyxm power he was given, successfully tricking Mxy into saying the magic word.
  • Cat Up a Tree: Dudley gets a cat out of a tree by pulling up the tree and lowering it to the ground. He then tosses it aside... right onto a nearby police car.
  • Cats Are Mean: Averted. The giant cat isn't malicious; it's behaving like a normal, curious cat the entire time, which is only a problem because of its massive size.
  • Cuteness Proximity: Several of the heroes react this way at the first appearance of the giant cat. Shazam moves to attack it, but just can't bring himself to actually hit it.
  • Destructive Savior: Dudley's attempts at heroism keep doing more harm than good.
  • I Just Want to Be Badass: Dudley so badly wants to be more than just the guy who directs people to safety and gets out of the way.
  • Unlikely Hero: Shazam congratulates Dudley as the one who saved the day in the end (which he did with his wits, not his powers).
