Recap / Justice League Action S 1 E 23 Double Cross

Go To

The Penguin has hired Deadshot to capture Two-Face. Meanwhile, Batman has Two-Face in custody, and recruited Plastic Man to serve as a decoy to draw out Deadshot. Leaving Firestorm to guard the real Two-Face, Batman and Plas set out to lay their trap.

Deadshot attacks, and the battle continues indecisively for a while. Plas uses his powers to dodge Deadshot's tranquilizer dart, giving away the ruse.

Meanwhile, the real Two-Face tricks Firestorm into opening a window and turning his back long enough to hit him with a chair and escape. Two-Face heads for a storage locker where he's stashed the loot, only to be ambushed and knocked out by Deadshot. Batman and Plastic Man then arrive and continue the fight. Deadshot gains the upper hand, dropping a chandelier on Batman. Firestorm then arrives and briefly turns the tide in the heroes' favor, until he gets careless and hit with one of Deadshot's grenades. Deadshot picks up one of his big guns to finish off Batman, only to get captured when the gun turns out to be Plastic Man.

As Two-Face and Deadshot are hauled off to prison, Batman admits that Plastic Man was "fairly effective tonight". Plas proudly brags to Firestorm, making it sound like he and Batman are now best buddies. Firestorm asks how Plastic Man changes his clothes to match his shape; Plas has no idea what he's talking about; and Firestorm realizes to his dismay that Plas isn't actually wearing any clothes.

This episode provides examples of the following tropes:

  • Cover-Blowing Superpower: Plas morphs a hole through himself to avoid Deadshot's tranq dart. Later, Batman tells him he should have sucked it up and let himself be hit.
  • Evil Lawyer Joke: As you might expect in an episode featuring Two-Face, a former District Attorney.
Harvey Dent: I can't be confused with you! You're a soulless criminal and professional thief, whereas I'm a lawyer!
Two-Face: I guess we got more in common than I thought...
  • I Want Them Alive!: The Penguin wants Two-Face alive (though "he doesn't have to be in the best of shape") so he can make him cough up the half million he grabbed for himself in a heist Penguin had set up.
  • Technically Naked Shapeshifter: Lampshaded in the final exchange between Plastic Man and Firestorm — Plas doesn't understand Firestorm's question about his clothes shapeshifting with him, and Firestorm is squicked when the implication hits him.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Plas has improved his skills to the point of being able to imitate a wider color palette, thus enabling him to impersonate Two-Face (once he gets straight which side of his face is supposed to be scarred).
