Recap / J-WITCH S1 E17, "Parent's Night"

Go To

Phobos' forces make their move to take Elyon from Earth.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Miranda enters the story here, right before Elyon is taken to Meridian, as opposed to canon when she was only introduced a little while afterwards.
  • Big Creepy-Crawlies: While shrunken inside Phobos' terrarium, the heroes have to fight off not just the canonical spider, but also a praying mantis, a scorpion and a moth, all of them conjured by Wong.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: The argument over whether to tell Elyon about her true heritage is this. While Cornelia in particular argues that keeping it from her puts her at risk, especially since Cedric has been using his human form to get closer to her, it's pointed out by the other side that she could easily just not believe them or freak out about it. Even Jade says that she'd have trouble handling everything at once if she was in Elyon's shoes. Unfortunately, they're unable to come to a consensus before it's too late.
  • Continuity Nod: When the heroes find themselves shrunken inside a terrarium, Jackie groans at being turned tiny again.
  • False Flag Operation: When the heroes confront Cedric and Miranda, who have just told Elyon her true identity, the Shadowkhan appear with the orders to act like they're hostile towards everyone. As they keep the heroes occupied and "subdue" Cedric and Miranda, Elyon acts on instinct to help her "only friends" and unleashes a shockwave which vaporizes the Shadowkhan and momentarily incapacitates the heroes.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Due to Cedric's cover being blown, Miranda is brought to Earth to finish the job of winning Elyon's trust, bringing her into the story ahead of canon.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Despite all the intervention by the Chans and Section 13, Phobos still gets his hands on Elyon.
  • Oh, No... Not Again!: Jackie's reaction to getting shrunk again.
  • You Can't Thwart Stage One: Despite having the aid of Section 13 and Uncle's magic, and the benefit of learning Cedric's human identity and that Elyon’s the lost heir earlier than in canon, the heroes are still unable to stop the former from luring the latter back to Meridian.
