Titus introduces Chloe and Atticus to Azada, a home for flying books. He tells Chloe that her task is to take care of the books while trying to answer a riddle, "What do all passengers have in common?" Chloe is hesitant to start this task, but Atticus reassures her that all she needs to do is try. With that in mind, Chloe settles to work.


This arc contains examples of:

  • Alice Allusion: This chapter is filled with Alice in Wonderland references all culminating with Chloe dressed as Alice Lidell herself and celebrating her Unbirthday.
  • Buried Alive: Lexi was torn apart by Grace and Simon years ago and buried within his own car just a few feet away from Azada.
  • Dance of Romance: Chloe and Lexi barely know each other for a day and Lexi immediately invites Chloe to dance with him to the Lobster Quadrille.
  • Flashback: Part 3 reveals how Chloe was mocked for her interests by a couple of girls in her class.
  • Flying Books: The car has an entire library of this with it based off of The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore.
  • Foreshadowing: Chloe always keeps her eyes on a picture of two teens while in the car. Those two teens are Grace and Simon.
  • Great Big Library of Everything: Azada is filled with phonograph records and books from all sorts of worlds.
  • Headdesk: Chloe does this after three straight days of writer's block.
  • Paper Person: Titus and his son Lexi are actually books but an separate their papers to form humanoid figures.
  • Taking the Bullet: During the fight between Lexi and Titus over how Lexi is furious that his father was oblivious to his whereabouts for eight years, Titus hits a cutting board where a hot water kettle was resting. The kettle rises into the air, threatening to douse Lexi, only for Chloe to push him out of the way and take the attack.
  • Wham Line: When Chloe shows off Lexi to Titus, Lexi can only wheeze one word.
    Lexi: Father...
