Recap / If Wishes Were Ponies Chapter 26 The Shop Around The Corner

Go To

The Equestrians visit the bookstore, and learn about Harry's past in the process.

Tropes that had a crappy book series about them published against their will are as follows:

  • Berserk Button: Harry loses it when he sees that someone (revealed to be Dumbledore) allowed for completely fictionalized books about his "childhood adventures" to be published. Twilight is angry as well, and immediately goes to see the goblins and ask about libel laws in the Wizarding world.
  • Bookworm: Twilight and Hermione both Squee and disappear when they get to the bookstore, and the only thing that keeps Twilight from buying one of every book in the store is Pinkie telling her that they can get a catalogue and order books instead.
  • Cliffhanger: The chapter ends as the Mane 6, CMC, Grangers, and Professor McGonnagall are entering Ollivander's.
  • Exact Words: Officially, there's nothing Harry and Twilight can do to stop the printing/sale of the libelous Harry Potter books. But, as the goblins tell Twilight, they can run a story in the papers saying that the books are full of lies and that they profited off of Harry's being an orphan. Said story kills the market for the books, with only the series' loyalest fans continuing to purchase them.
  • Hold Your Hippogriffs: Inverted. The cashier at the bookstore uses the phrase "Bob's your uncle" while explaining to the fillies how Expansion charms work. Scootaloo excitedly thinks that this means she gets an uncle named Bob with her order. The cashier quickly explains.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Harry finally learns what happened to his birth parents in this chapter.
    • The Grangers learn that Twilight is a princess.
  • Oblivious to Love: Harry fails to see why the fillies have always wanted to carry his books to school for him (and still doesn't realize that he technically has three girlfriends).
