Tropes associated with this episode:

  • Assembly Line Fast-Forward: This episode is the Trope Codifier. Lucy and Ethel can barely keep up with the pace of the conveyor belt and try to cover it up by hiding the chocolates wherever they can. Naturally, this convinces their boss to pick up the pace.
  • A Day in Her Apron: While Lucy and Ethel bring home the bacon, Ricky and Fred do the housework. It goes almost as badly for them as it does for the girls.
  • Difficulty by Acceleration: When the chocolate factory foreperson concludes that Lucy and Ethel can handle the already brisk pace of the conveyor belt — after it is clear to everyone else that they are struggling (but have concealed their inability to keep up so well) — she calls out to the conveyor belt operator the lines our heroines dread to hear: "Speed it up!"
  • New Job Episode: Lucy and Ethel get jobs in a chocolate factory working at the conveyor belt.
  • Oh, Crap!: And we do mean "OH CRAP!!!!" ... the priceless expressions of Lucy and Ethel when the foreperson calls out those words they hoped they wouldn't hear – "Speed it up!"
  • Stay in the Kitchen: It all starts with Lucy once again being frustrated that she has to be a housewife and Ricky balking at her wanting to become part of his act. Not helping matters is that Lucy has, through her reckless spending habits, once again caused their bank account to dwindle to nothing, which Ricky calls her on.
  • Swapped Roles: Lucy and Ethel agree to be the breadwinners while Ricky and Fred do the housework.
  • Trauma Button Ending: After admitting housework is harder than they thought, Ricky and Fred pull out two big boxes of chocolate to apologize to their wives. Lucy and Ethel collapse, having seen and eaten more than enough chocolate during their last job.
  • Victoria's Secret Compartment: Out of sheer desperation, Lucy starts hiding the extra chocolates down her blouse.
