Recap / I Heart Arlo S 1 E 12 Moody Tuesday

Go To

Dropping her non-dairy ice cream causes Bertie to become increasingly upset, and her moodiness soon spreads to all of Seaside.

Tropes:

  • An Aesop: Treat others the way you want them to treat you. Your mood affects everyone else.
  • Big Word Shout:
Arlo: I think I need to be... ALONE.
  • Break the Cutie: Is the case of the chain of bad moods, with Arlo suffering this the most. Bertie destroying his banjo and refusing to hear his song hits him so hard he's in quite a fuss when she goes to apologize.
  • Broken Smile: Furlecia does one when she gets a bad mood.
  • Comical Angry Face: Arlo gives one to Bertie, complete with constricted pupils and hissing, almost like a real alligator.
  • Continuity Nod: Bertie getting a nondairy cone is a nod that she's a vegan as mentioned in the movie, who cannot consume dairy products.
  • Disaster Dominoes: Pretty much the case of the chain of bad moods.
    • It starts when Bertie drops her ice cream in Central Park.
    • Bertie is too angry to hear Arlo's song, making him deeply upset.
    • Arlo is too upset to be impressed by Furlecia's mohawk.
    • Feeling upset she's being insulted, Furlecia shaves off Tony's mustache completely.
    • Tony turns down Alia's pizza face mask idea, angering her.
    • Alia runs over Gordy's boardwalk graffiti.
  • Disney Acid Sequence: "I Can Lift You Up" has a few examples of this.
  • Even the Dog Is Ashamed: Among those affected by the string of bad moods, Jeromio is one of them.
  • Ironic Echo: When Arlo meets up with the crestfallen Bertie and tries to sing her a song, she utters her name in annoyance before shouting it in anger. Later when Bertie calms down and tries to fix his banjo, Arlo does the same. In both instances, they also say they want to be alone, upsetting the other.
  • Jump Scare: Bertie gets one from Arlo when she checks in on him in a bad mood.
  • Lost Food Grievance: Bertie dropping her nondairy ice cream is what causes her to become increasingly sullen.
  • Minimalist Cast: The only characters who appear are the six main characters and Jeromio.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Arlo suffers the worst out of anyone who gets a bad mood; the instant he hears Bertie doesn't want him to sing and wants to be alone, he becomes so hurt and upset that once Bertie finds him, he's not at all his usual optimistic self to the point he doesn't even want to sing.
  • Overly Long Gag:
    • Arlo running down the rather long dock to catch up with Bertie.
    • Arlo going "Na-na-na-na-na!" nonstop when calling Bertie out, followed by prolonged explosion noises.
  • Running Gag: Whenever someone is given a bad mood by their predecessor, a blue dull sparkle cloud washes over them.
  • Tranquil Fury: Furlecia barely loses it when Arlo doesn't compliment on her mohawk.
  • Traumatic Haircut: Furlecia shaving off Tony's mustache completely, giving him a bad mood.
  • Volumetric Mouth: Bertie shows this as she yells out Arlo's name, making him break his banjo.
  • A Wild Rapper Appears!: Twice during "I Can Lift You Up", first by Arlo in the first verse, then by Bertie in the second verse.
